New Mitsubishi EVO X Exhaust Video

Publishsed by Dan on February 21st, 2008 | Posted in Product Info | No Comments »

Vivid Racing recently tested another Agency Power catback exhaust system on the Mitsubishi EVO X. This gray EVO X was only outfitted with an Agency Power Blow Off Valve and Shorty Antenna. The customer then came back for the Titanium Tip dual catback exhaust and test pipe for his EVO X.

The car was baseline tested and then tested with the Catback Exhaust. The car made a peak HP of 14 and a peak torque of 11Ft/lbs. Very good!

New AFI External Wastegate Headers Porsche 996 Turbo

Publishsed by Dan on February 21st, 2008 | Posted in Product Info | No Comments »

For those customers running the turbo kits from EVO, Protomotive, UMW, or anyone else, we have listened to the requests and worked with AFI Turbo to release External Wastegate headers for the stock turbo fitment. All these companies offer great turbo upgrade options that MANY of you have. Some of you have suggested interest in upgrading from the internal wastegate setup to the external setup with Tial 44mm wastegates. Only to add on to your already dialed and happy setup, this is a new product to check out.

Feb. 21, 2008
AFI Turbo has released their all new made in the USA stainless steel high flow headers for Tial 44mm External Wastegates. Engineered and designed to fit all 01-05 Porsche 996TT cars. The headers feature CNC machined 1/2 inch thick flanges with a “true merged” collector. V-Band clamp flanges are welded on the header and included dump tube for a clean and easy installation. The Wastegate tube is placed just off the side where proper exhaust flow will activate the Tial Wastegate without any boost creep. The headers are made from 8gauge 304 stainless steel. These headers fit stock style turbo configurations including: K16, K24, and other hybrid turbos. The turbos fit to the headers using factory hardware and gaskets. The kit includes hardware to block off and keep closed your factory internal actuator flap.

As tested by Vivid Racing on a K16 turbo car, these headers made approximately 40 ft/lbs of torque more then the stock style internal wastegates. By bypassing the exhaust system and dumping the exhaust gas straight out of the headers, a large amount of power is picked up.
Note: The factory boost solenoid cannot control external wastegates. You will need a boost controller or you can run the wastegate spring boost of about 1.0 bar. Tial Wastegates are supplied with .8bar springs.

Agency Power 650 Turbo Kit Installation

Publishsed by Dan on February 19th, 2008 | Posted in Product Info | No Comments »

Just finished another local customers car with the Agency Power 650 Turbo Kit. For those first time hearing about this, product info is HERE. Here is a little story…

This car was bought used about 6 months ago. It is a 2003 996TT X50. The customer, who I have to say has been a blast to deal with, bought the car stock and it had a Upsolute ECU upgrade on it. The car ran well. We started his upgrade process with a short shifter, then diverter valves and Agency Power intake.

The customer had always been interested in some more power but was unsure. He saw my car and loved the way the 650 kit looked. The selling point for him was actually a ride in the K24/18G car we did with external wastegates. Once the ride was done, we set on a path to get him the AP 650 kit.

First order of business was parts. He had the basics so all we added was the Agency Power exhaust system. Being an X50 he already had the GT2 intercoolers. Since we run external wastegates, controlling boost must be done outside the factory boost solenoid. We installed a Greddy Profec BII unit. The only mod that was left out and could be done later was the Boost Hoses.

Next order of business was the $$$$. $10,800 for the kit plus labor is alot for most of us, so we helped in sell his stock K24 turbos and wheels. Sweet! The $10K turbo kit is now $7000

The customer dropped the car off last tuesday to us. Having all the parts ready to go instock, we spent time in between other customer cars taking apart the stock components and adding the 650 kit. Simple bolt on of the headers, wastegates, turbos, oil tanks, oil lines, and our new water line kit. Adding the 5 bar fuel pressure regulator and some Denso spark plugs, the total install time was about 15 hours. Once it was done on Thursday, it was Softronic time.

Our original development of the 650 kit had enabled us a perfect tune from Softronic, so we flashed the ECU through the OBDII port and ran the car on our Mustang AWD Dyno. The car was running 91 octane and we set the boost for a very safe and conservative 1.1bar of boost. On this setup, we can go up to 1.3 bar, but only recommended for 93+ octane. This car is 99% a street car with some spirited driving.

Our first dyno run was good. Since the customer was local and on the dyno, we decided to make a revision to the map to see if we could tweak some more power out of it for 91 octane. And we did for fun…..

Some stress, some ups and downs, and some pressure, but at the end of the day, we made a happy customer. This car is uber clean and I love the navy leather and silver trimmings. All this car needs is to be lowered and I think we have a winner!

The car made a strong 100hp and 100ft/lbs of torque over the flashed K24 car which we thought was very strong. The correct numbers on the dyno screen were about 520hp and 530tq.

Big thanks to Hai, Mitch, Maxx, and Scott for making another one happen.
