2 things about this M5 that I could not stand… The woodgrain trim and the steering wheel was a little beat up from normal wear and tear. So we made some moves to get it dialed in. At first I was thinking of painting the trim flat black and doing a VividRacing logo all over print to match the wrap we will be doing on the exterior. But that would be a little much on the eyes everyday! So we went with the ole carbon fiber route which always looks classy and stylish. First we hooked up with our partners at DCT Motorsports who do custom steering wheels off of cores. This is the same company that we worked with to do our Porsche 997TT Steering Wheel. It features a semi flat bottom with carbon fiber top, carbon fiber lower grips, and at 9 and 3 hand positions extra grip.
After we intalled the steering wheel, we removed all the wood trim that came with the car. We added a full replacement kit, not overlays, which feature a high gloss carbon fiber finish. It replaced all 4 door pulls, dashboard trim, and the shifter center console trim. The complete carbon upgrade has definitely transformed the inside of the car from an old man machine to a sporty, powerful sedan. Check out the before and after pictures below…

Stay tuned to our Project M5 Section Here as we will be showing off our new CorForged Wheels and will have another dyno test and more videos! Here is a sneak peak at the wheels 🙂
Looks sooooo much better, steering wheel looks hot also.
That steering wheel is incredible.
Damn. looks so much better. That wood really looked stupid. Much better! keep it comin!
Love it, thought about getting a carbon trim kit for my car but it has brushed aluminum looking trim that i think matches better with the black and grey interior. Plus the carbon stuff was like 700 bucks for 4 small door trim, glove box trim, small center console trim, and door sills. May look great but not worth the cost of putting a nice new exhaust or vtuned.
The wood was the first thing that caught my attention in a bad way in the original pics. This looks absolutely amazing. The steering wheel is the best part…as I think about it, they did an amazing job; I bet it wasn’t easy.
Can’t wait to see the wheels on.
1 potato! New article coming later!
Here are some quick sneak pics. Installing the H&R lowering springs right now so will have great shots later…
Nice job, what an incredible improvement. The interior looks great with the CF. What was BMW thinking of with that wood–that they were only selling M5’s to the visually impaired (no dis of the visually impaired intended)? It looked like bamboo or plywood–nasty contrast with the rest of the interior and cheap looking. I’ve never seen CF make such an intense transformation before. Really fine change with the steering wheel too. The wheels also look superb–they move the M5 further away from the "yeah, another hot sedan" and more toward a "wow, that’s a really sinister 10 cylinder beast" appearance which is what it deserves. Great work as always.
Does anyone know any shops in AZ that do Carbon Fiber Overlays??
I mean no simple vinyls and no replacement, but real synthetic CF coating????
I need to do my interior badly. Otherwise I’ll have to send the parts to Cali….. 🙁
Yes we have a guy, but its not cheap to have it done right.
Incredible! That’s simply gorgeous!
