BMW 318TI Built to Shred and Geared to the Top

Publishsed by Dan on June 9th, 2009 | Posted in Client Cars | No Comments »

Thought I would show off this BMW 318TI of a customer of ours.  You might think this is just a cute little old BMW hatchback.  In actuality, it is a MONSTER.  The 318TI has been shoehorned with a E36 M3 motor that is built and then Turbocharged.  With an AEM EMS stand alone ECU, this car makes 400 horsepower (Read More Here) to the rear wheels on our Mustang dyno.  The car has been trimmed up by removing interior components to make it weigh almost 500lbs lighter then stock.  It features a complete Rieger body kit with custom center exit exhaust, OZ Superleggera wheels powdercoated gloss black, Recaro Speed Seats, and the latest addition, custom white Brembo brakes.  These cheesy iPhone pictures dont do it justice, but this car is a BAMF!

Porsche Cayman S Stops Hard at the Track with Brembo

Publishsed by Dan on June 8th, 2009 | Posted in Client Cars | No Comments »

One of our customers needed to greatly improve his stopping performance of his Porsche Cayman S at the track.  So he called Vivid Racing who is one of the top Brembo dealers to advise him on the best upgrade for his car.  His goals were to improve pedal feel, increase rotor and pad life, and retain his stock Cayman wheels.  The best solution for his needs was the Brembo 14 inch 4piston big brake kit.  This brake kit uses 2 piece fully floating slotted rotors, steel braided brakes lines, and a stiffer caliper then the stock Porsche unit.  With the 2 piece rotors, his pads would be in a true center line on braking giving him better pad wear and longer use because of the heat dissipation.  Since this cars main duty is on the track, we equipped the car with some Pagid Orange pads for a good bite.  Today is his track day so hopefully we will have some positive feedback to report!

Nissan 370Z Geared Up to the T with Stillen, HRE, JIC, Brembo

Publishsed by Dan on June 2nd, 2009 | Posted in Client Cars | No Comments »

This Nissan 370Z is one of the latest creations from a customer of ours with a big collection of toys.  Recently, he picked up this 370Z to have as a daily driver to race around town and at the track.  To make sure this 370Z was the best possible, he insisted on the best in handling, braking, and rollers.  First thing first was to add power performance by Stillen.  The customer picked up the Stillen Generation 2 Long Tube Cold Air Intake Kit.  To provide a better sound and help the exhaust flow, we then added Stillen’s dual exhaust system and matched them with Stillen’s high flow cat system and performance headers for a COMPLETE exhaust.  To keep oil temperatures down, we geared him up with the new Agency Power oil cooler kit.  This oil cooler comes with complete steel braided lines, AN fittings, cooler, and a sandwhich block adapter for easy installation.

Now when it comes to handling, Vivid Racing recommends only JIC Coilovers.  We hooked up this car with the first set of JIC FL-TAR coilovers.  The 16 way adjustable coilovers feature monotube shock absorbers and adjustable ride height.  To keep a balanced vehicle, the car was equipped with the Hotchkis front and rear sway bar set.  With great power and handling, braking is an important factory that must be upgraded.   Vivid Racing only recommends Brembo brake systems for those serious about stopping.  With more cars running Brembo in professional motorsports then any other company, there is a reason they choose Brembo.  The 6piston monoblock caliper is extremely rigid for a stiff and precise pedal feel and modularity.  The 2 piece floating rotors are 380mm (15inch) and are drilled with red calipers.  Combined with steel braided brake lines and Brembo’s aggressive street brake pads, this 370Z now stops on a dime.

Finally we got this car the best in performance wheels.  HRE Wheels makes the monoblock wheel for many different vehicles such as BMW, Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, and more.  More recently they have become popular with the Nissan GT-R crowd.  As a 1piece forged wheel, the front weighs only 21lbs where the rear is 23.5lbs.  We wrapped these flat black babies in some Yokohama Advan sport tires featuring a 255 in the front and 285 in the rear.

This car is far from completed with more craziness on the horizon.  So stay tuned to the Vivid Racing Blog for more details.  View all the pictures here – http://www.vividracing.com/forums/gallery/browseimages.php?c=431

One Equipped MKV Volkswagen Golf with HRE and Brembo

These pictures come to us from our newest customer Tony and his Volkswagen MKV Golf.  Tony has spared nothing in making this car have all the best gear.  Tony has equipped his Golf with a beautiful set of HRE P40 Monoblock wheels in 19 inch.  In addition, Tony hooked up with Vivid Racing to add a Brembo Front Big Brake Kit.   Tony’s front Brembo brake kit features a 4 piston caliper with a 355mm 2 piece floating rotor.  Like all Brembo brake kits, he received steel braided brakelines and Brembo street pads.  To help in the rear, Tony added a set of Rotora drilled OEM replacement rotors to match.  This is one well done car!

Brembo Braking Performance at the Professional Level

Publishsed by Dan on April 2nd, 2009 | Posted in Product Info | No Comments »

At the 2008 SEMA show, Brembo displayed one of their complete billet race calipers that featured titanium pistons with other bits to make this the ultimate in braking performance.  About 90% of these kits are specially made to order.  Why 90%?  With these RACE systems the customer has the flexibility and reach as we would offer a professional racing team, but with the support and engineering expected through the High Performance division.  Brembo’s High Performance Division engineers racing brake systems with the same tanacity it puts behind its OEM division.  Each system, while built with professional race hardware, is still engineered vehicle specific based on master cylinder, ABS, traction control, and other important vehicle specifications to provide dramatic improvements in performance while providing optimum brake bias, pedal feel and drivability. This includes the ability to provide systems for dedicated track vehicles with aftermarket master cylinder setups and custom pedal boxes. The available components are preselected by a team of Brembo engineers for their compatibility to a specified vehicle platform. The driver is able to select from this, the desired disc diameter (based on his wheel requirements), caliper type (based on cost, size, desired pad shape for sprint or endurance type racing use), pad compounds (based on intended use with a wide variety of street, performance, and racing compounds), and hardware (fully floating, with or without McLaren style spring plates).

What’s the difference between a Brembo Gran Turismo (GT) system and the Brembo Race type systems?

Actually not a whole lot, but that’s the brilliant part of what the Brembo High Performance division has been providing to the aftermarket consumer for the last 10 years.  The Gran Turismo brake systems combine the best of what they have learned through their dominance in professional racing, with the quality and longevity learned as a leading supplier to the top auto manufactures in the world. The goal was to provide a direct bolt on system offering race like performance with OEM reliability. The Gran Turismo philosophy is to achieve the highest level of performance with the lowest amount of maintenance and best possible longevity. The RACE systems follow the same direct bolt on approach, backed again with vehicle specific engineering, and now the highest level of race division componentry ever made available to the public.

Take a look at some of these images and you will see such technical improvements such a vented titanium piston inserts, forged billet monobloc construction, narrow or wide body calipers for endurance or sprint racing pad shapes/sizes, clear hard anodized surfaces for maximum heat dissipation, integral bridges for maximum caliper stiffness or open top calipers for quick pad changes. This is similar componetry as seen on all of our favorite cars from ALMS, Grand AM GT and Rolex, NASCAR, World Rally, World Challenge, etc…

Vivid Racing has supported the Brembo product on numerous customer vehicles as well as our own Project Cars.  Check out our complete line up of bolt on Brembo Brake Kits available here – http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/brakes-big-brake-kits-c-4238_4862.html?filter_id=117
