New Porsche 997 Turbo Cold Air Intake by Agency Power

Publishsed by Dan on February 3rd, 2009 | Posted in Product Info | No Comments »
Agency Power has engineered the most complete cold air intake kit for the 2007 and up Porsche 997 Turbo and GT2. This cold air intake features components to help your car gain horsepower, improve throttle response, reduce turbo lag, and give your engine a more aggressive sound. With over 6 months of R&D and dyno testing, as well as 3000 miles of daily driving, this intake has been proven to gain almost 20 wheel horsepower and increase air flow while reducing intake temperatures. The natural 2 snorkel design of the 997 turbo engine helps bring in a larger volume of air flow to the intake box then the previous 996 Turbo. The limiting factor of the stock air box is the air filter and the volume of air the intake system can get in. With turbocharged cars, it is important to get alot of air in while getting alot of air out. By improving the air intake system, this is one step closer to achieving a more enjoyable performance vehicle.

The intake utilizes the stock MAF tubes which come apart easily from the factory intake box. They are connected to two aluminum intake pipes with K&N cone air filters. Each pipe is powder coated textured black for a clean OEM finish. All pipes are TIG welded and made from our original JIG to ensure precise fitment. The cone air filters provide plenty of flow for the turbos while the aluminum intake pipes keep the air flow smooth and laminar for proper MAF functioning. The left intake pipe requires a special fitting which we have CNC machined out of 6061 aircraft grade aluminum to fit on the return air hose. Each intake pipe is connected to the stock MAF tube via a 4ply Agency Power logo silicone coupler in black. Keeping the air flow circulating and cool, the intake is held in place by an aluminum heat shield that uses aluminum stands that drop into the rubber grommets on the frame for a secure fit. The heat shield is water jetted and then finished in textured black for an OEM look. The final touch of the air intake is the carbon fiber air box cover which securely connects to the aluminum intake shield. The air box helps keep air flow moving through the K&N cone filters with its increased volume over the stock unit. The carbon air box is flared out on either side to go with the contour of the incoming intake pipes. The back of the air box curves outward for a sleek look to fill in the area between the y-pipe and where the stock intake box would be. The top features a different pattern then the OEM box in the middle with an aluminum Agency Power badge. The carbon box fits seamless with the factory dual snorkels of the stock deck lid or GT2 wing. To finish off the look, each carbon part is completed with a semi gloss finish that dresses up the engine bay nicely.

The use of this intake does not require an ECU flash, however the addition of a flash will only improve the performance of the intake. The intake kit is a complete replacement unit for the stock air box as pictured. This intake is guaranteed to not cause any check engine lights. Audi TT Quattro Makes Good Numbers on the VR Dyno

Publishsed by Dan on June 23rd, 2008 | Posted in Random World | No Comments »

Vivid Racing strapped down this 01 Audi TT Quattro today and gave it a good run. After fixing a small boost leak, we let it rip in 90 degree air temperature and it did pretty well! The car had a APR FMIC, turbo back exhaust, REVO flash, new charge pipes, and a intake kit. The car did 228awhp and 255ft/lbs of torque. Special thanks for Jim coming down to the Vivid Racing facility and best of luck serving our country on your next deployment.

New Porsche 996TT Carbon Fiber Air Intake Released

Publishsed by Dan on May 22nd, 2008 | Posted in Product Info | No Comments »

Agency Power has just released their all new carbon fiber cold air intake kit for the Porsche 996 Turbo.  Based off their other aluminum box, this carbon fiber unit adds a sense of style and quality to the engine bay of the Porsche.  The intake utilizes the factory air snorkel to guide air in and across a colored silicone tube to the left box which houses a K&N air filter for maximum performance.  As tested on a Mustang AWD Dyno, the cold air intake kit produced 32 wheel horsepower and 22 ft/lbs of torque in the mid RPMs.  Check out all the info and pictures of the Agency Power Carbon Fiber Cold Air Intake Kit Here.

Customer Review on the Agency Power 996TT Air Intake Kit

Publishsed by Dan on May 16th, 2008 | Posted in Product Info | No Comments »

I received the Agency Power air intake system for the 996tt. Just wanted to post my review about it. First off, the directions are VERY straight forward. There were literally 2 or 3 screws to remove from the OEM box, and MAF sensor. The tricky thing I noticed was actually getting the stock air box out of the car, you kind of have to turn it counter clock wise, and wiggle it out slowly…. (Installation Instructions are here)

The install on the new intake was very straight forward.. I’m not a very “mechanically inclined” person, so I thought I was going to have issues, but I had NONE. You have to be SUPER careful when removing the MAF sensor, as it sits right under one of the intake tubes and there’s not much room under there. Lucky for me I have long thin fingers lol. I first installed the tube that goes into the air filter, and used the supplied clamps to get it nice and snug. You then have to kind of slide the tube into the manifold thing (forgot what it’s called) and wiggle it in there. I think it would have been easier if I would have disconnected the intake tube that goes from the intercooler into the manifold, but I was too lazy.

The next step was installing the silicone hose to the 2nd box, and tightening that down with the supplied fasteners. Once all that was done, I CAREFULLY put back the MAF into the intake system and I was good to go. All in all, it took about 40 minutes to install the system.

I wasn’t expecting to feel a difference right away, but I instantly HEARD a difference when starting the car. The supplied K&N filter definitely takes in more air than the stock filter, and that is obvious from the sound. I let the car idle for about 10 minutes, and then went off.

A short burst of the throttle, and i noticed that the throttle response is much better. The car didn’t feel more powerful in 1st and 2nd, but it felt that it was more responsive. After about 100 miles of city driving, I decided to take the car on the highway and see if i would notice a difference there… I DEFINATELY noticed a difference when redlining the higher gears. With the OEM box, it felt as if the car would kind of die out at 6000 rpm, but with the new system, it feels that the car is getting more COOL air and therefore pulls harder. My gas mileage is SLIGHTLY better than with the OEM box… With the OEM box, I got 196 miles in city driving. With the Agency Power intake I got 206, and I probably drove the car a little bit harder with the Agency Power system too. All in all I’m happy with the intake. The car sounds better during acceleration, and throttle response is definitely dramatically improved. As far as horsepower numbers, I’m still waiting to get the car dyno’d, as I have a slipping clutch at the moment, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a noticeable increase in torque.

After 500 miles of driving, I decided just for curiosity to open up the intake box to see how the filter was looking, and it still looked brand new. No black spots anywhere. Next on the list are the Agency Power intake tubes in yellow to match the cold air intake.
