997 Turbo Tiptronic Rocks the Strip with a 11.16 1/4mile

Publishsed by Dan on October 22nd, 2009 | Posted in Client Cars | No Comments »

Just wanted to say nice work to our customer Tim who rocked the dragstrip with his 997 Turbo Tiptronic.  His mods are a Softronic ECU Flash, Ceramic Coated Headers, and Fabspeed Bypass Pipes.  This was his first time out with the car since it was flashed.  The tiptronic allowed him to rocket to a 11.16sec in the 1/4mile with a trap of 123mph.  Just shows how quick a tip is.

And the play by play…

Porsche 997 Turbo Drag Racing at Firebird Raceway

For years I have hated going to the dragstrip, but recently found a new love for learning the art of launching and going fast.  This past Friday, Vivid Racing and friends headed down to Firebird International Raceway for Friday night drags.  It was about 95F out in the Arizona night.  We just filled up with some 100 octane pump gas and were ready to hit it.  In the crew:  2010 Nissan GTR with 5Zigen Inconel exhaust and Cobb Accessport, a BMW E36 widebody racecar at an astonishing 2600lbs powered by a LS1 V8 engine aka GMW, and our very own Project 997TT.  The Porsche was just equipped with some straight pipes and a custom plenum with larger throttle body.  This was its first run out to do some tests.

With the boost cranked up to 1.4bar, the first run was a miss with a bad start.  Taking the lap around to the start, I was able to get a good a line up and launch, firing down the strip with a trap speed of 127mph and a time of 11.4.  This was the best run of the night as 2 other runs after were misses.  With the included mods, cooler temperatures, and some fine tuning, we expect to see this 997 in the mid 10’s.  More work ahead!  Enjoy the video and pics :)

BMW 135I Hits the Drag Strip in Phoenix

Publishsed by Dan on June 29th, 2009 | Posted in Project Cars | Comments Off

Took our Project 135I out to the drags on Friday night for some fun.  And why not!  Only 100F outside in the Arizona desert, alittle sweat and poor running turbos is always neat.  Along with our buddy in his Nissan R34 GTR, we made quite the show.  The little steptronic 135I equipped with a JB3 ECU update, Riss Racing Intake, Code3 Intercooler, and Agency Power Exhaust put down a 13.3 second 1/4 mile run with a trap speed of 106mph.  To show how hot it was, the GTR with 600 HP ran a 12.6.  Both of these on pump gas of course.  One of the guys at the track took this awesome picture of us at the start line.  Enjoy!

Project Porsche 997TT Hits the Drag Strip

Well I finally got a chance to take her out to the old drag races.  Yes the most uneventful type of motorsports in a straight line, but it was fun.  To bad it was the wrong time of year.  Being in this business for 8 years I have actually NEVER drag raced a car in my life.  I always road race at the track which requires turning :)   Well we headed down to Firebird Raceway here in Phoenix for some runs.  With the temperature outside just over 100F, I was running 1.2 bar of boost on what was a mix to get 93 octane.  My first run made me seem as if I was retarded with a reaction time of .7sec.  Apparently its not like at the street where you wait for the light to turn green!  With a terrible launch I still manage to eat up this Corvette and get a 124mph trap speed.  The 2nd run I was told to turn off the traction control, rev it up to 5000rpm and let it go at the last yellow.  With a .228 reaction time, I rip down the strip with a trap speed of 126mph.  The time was still only a 11.6 because of the heat and pump gas on low boost.  Next time with cooler temperatures, higher race gas, and some better driving, we are easily going to hit the mid 10’s.  Enjoy the video and check out all our Project 997TT Updates Here.

VR630 Kit on Porsche 997 Turbo Almost Touches 10’s

So this guy ran Gumball last year in 2008 and I remember him as we were the only 2 997 Turbo cars on the rally.  He hit me up with a month left before the rally that he wanted some more power in his car.  The rally was to start on that Saturday and the car was arriving from being shipped from Spain on the prior Thursday.  There was no way to get the car to Phx so I scrambled first on the logistics.  Big thanks to Tom at Lucent Motors for helping us out and getting the car in last minute while doing an incredible job.

We shipped Tom our new Agency Power Performance Exhaust with 200cell cats, the Agency Power Carbon Fiber Cold Air Intake, and we did the Softronic ECU Flash on 93 octane.  The car was geared up and started the rally.  The car owner Ian came to me probably at least 1 time per day with how excited he was in how the car drove differently and felt much stronger.  In LA, at the Hoover Dam, the stop in Santa Fe, Dallas, and then finally Orlando, he kept thanking me.

Now this car is a Tiptronic and when we finally reached Palm Beach Raceway it was very HOT and HUMID.  Ian lined up on the drag strip with the said 800hp Nissan GTR and blew it away.  With a TERRIBLE reaction time of 0.49, Ian pulled off a 11.3 1/4 mile run with a trap speed of 122mph.  With a better reaction time and some cooler temperatures, this would easily be a 10.8sec car!  Not bad for a Tiptronic with a few bolt ons!

Quote from the customer – “ I had a reaction time of 0.49……crap. If I had got that down we would have run sub-11 seconds!  The car was getting a bit hot at the end and we only had the one run with 103 octane gas. A little bit of extra time and a bit of a rest and we would have been flying.

Here are some pics of his car –
