Softronic and Vivid Racing Partner to Power Up Porsche Cayman’s

Publishsed by Dan on June 5th, 2009 | Posted in Product Info | No Comments »

The Porsche 987’s Boxster and Cayman platform is a great all around car for the street or track. Its mid engine provides great weight distribution for a well balanced vehicle. Vivid Racing’s Stage 1 kit is designed to improve the vehicles power band from increased torque to stronger pull on the top end RPM range. In addition, you will notice quicker throttle response from the improved air flow and ECU changes.

Our Stage 1 kit consists of the Softronic ECU Flash inconjunction with their popular Softronic Racing Plenum. The plenum uses a larger throttle body to direct more air into the normal aspirated engine. With the specific tune that Softronic does for this plenum, you will gain a real and proven 25 wheel horsepower. With a 15% drivetrain loss, that takes your Cayman’s power level up substantially. The Softronic Racing Plenum uses factory Porsche parts to guarantee you an OEM look, fit, and finish with no troubles or false claims. The Softronic ECU Flash is done via the OBDII port with the provided Durametric cable. The Durametric cable also allows you to clear trouble codes, data log your vehicle, and more, see www.durametric.com for more info. The process to do the ECU flash is about 30 minutes to download your existing file and then 30 minutes to upload the new Tuned file. The Softronic ECU Flash will alter your fuel and timing maps to provide you a overall improved driving characteristics. With Softronic, you can always reload your stock file if need be. See all the rave reviews on this product at www.planetporsche.net.

Stage 1 Includes –

  • Softronic Racing Plenum
  • Larger Throttle Body
  • Durametric Flash Cable
  • Softronic Custom Tuned ECU Flash

With the use of the Softronic Racing Plenum and custom tuned ECU flash to gain 25 wheel horsepower as seen in Stage 1, we up the power of this Stage 2 kit using the Agency Power exhaust system and K&N high flow intake filter. The Softronic ECU flash is designed to take advantage of the increased air flow as provided with the larger throttle body and plenum installed. Once you have increased the intake airflow, you need to free up the exhaust system with the proper amount of back pressure retained. The Agency Power exhaust system is all T304 stainless steel designed to eliminate your secondary catalytic converters and save alot of weight reduced off the rear end. The precision tuned muffler gives the car an excellent race tone without droning in the cabin. With additional of the high flow K&N air filter, this Stage 2 kit touches an impressive 40 wheel horsepower. With a 15% drivetrain loss, your Cayman is at another level.

VR630 Kit on Porsche 997 Turbo Almost Touches 10’s

Publishsed by Dan on May 13th, 2009 | Posted in Random World | No Comments »

So this guy ran Gumball last year in 2008 and I remember him as we were the only 2 997 Turbo cars on the rally.  He hit me up with a month left before the rally that he wanted some more power in his car.  The rally was to start on that Saturday and the car was arriving from being shipped from Spain on the prior Thursday.  There was no way to get the car to Phx so I scrambled first on the logistics.  Big thanks to Tom at Lucent Motors for helping us out and getting the car in last minute while doing an incredible job.

We shipped Tom our new Agency Power Performance Exhaust with 200cell cats, the Agency Power Carbon Fiber Cold Air Intake, and we did the Softronic ECU Flash on 93 octane.  The car was geared up and started the rally.  The car owner Ian came to me probably at least 1 time per day with how excited he was in how the car drove differently and felt much stronger.  In LA, at the Hoover Dam, the stop in Santa Fe, Dallas, and then finally Orlando, he kept thanking me.

Now this car is a Tiptronic and when we finally reached Palm Beach Raceway it was very HOT and HUMID.  Ian lined up on the drag strip with the said 800hp Nissan GTR and blew it away.  With a TERRIBLE reaction time of 0.49, Ian pulled off a 11.3 1/4 mile run with a trap speed of 122mph.  With a better reaction time and some cooler temperatures, this would easily be a 10.8sec car!  Not bad for a Tiptronic with a few bolt ons!

Quote from the customer – “ I had a reaction time of 0.49……crap. If I had got that down we would have run sub-11 seconds!  The car was getting a bit hot at the end and we only had the one run with 103 octane gas. A little bit of extra time and a bit of a rest and we would have been flying.

Here are some pics of his car –

The VR750 Kit is Here for the Porsche 997 Turbo

Publishsed by Dan on May 12th, 2009 | Posted in Product Info | No Comments »

Vivid Racing is proud to release its new VR750 horsepower kit for the Porsche 997 Turbo. This kit was developed as the intermediate level to our VR630 and VR800 performance kits. The VR750 features a variety of quality, tested racing products to give you a reliable, daily drivable, and high output performance vehicle. As tested here in our Gilbert, Arizona facility.  The VR750 turbo kit put out a very strong 616awhp and 632ft/lbs of torque with the Mustang Dyno correction factor.   Our test vehicle was a 2007 Porsche 997 Turbo Tiptronic. The car reached its final number using VP109 octane unleaded fuel at 1.3bar of boost. As tested on pump gas, the car still made an impressive 557 awhp and 600ft/lbs of torque. With an ambient temperature of 92F in our dyno room, cooler temperatures and a 6speed transmission can only mean more horsepower!

To further the testing of our VR750 turbo kit, we immediately sent it off to run in the 2009 Gumball 3000 rally from LA to Miami. With 7 days of hard driving, 2 track events including a road course and drag strip, as well as high speed runs, this was an excellent test to put the car through beyond its dyno numbers. As vehicle owner Caleb Garrett stated, “The huge low end torque increase over my previous mods was very noticeable. When the turbos hit the car was a rocket pulling hard all the way to redline.” By retaining the VTG turbo setup, we are able to maintain fast spool up for those wanting a strong streetable setup. By not eliminating the VTG design, there is no need for changing oil lines, coolant lines, or other components found on a standard Garrett based turbocharger. Each turbo is disassembled and rebuilt with a larger turbo wheel that flows almost 40cfm more then the stock units. The end result is a brand new modified turbocharger.

In order to achieve this performance increase, it is necessary have proper tuning of the Bosch ECU. Vivid Racing has been a partner of Softronic who has been tuning ECUs and building Porsche engines for nearly 30 years. The Softronic tuning procedure is far more complex then others global changes. By adjusting the timing, air/fuel ratio, and boost, Softronic pulls out the potential of your car in a safe, reliable, and check engine light free world.

With any larger turbo package, it is necessary to upgrade additional components to maximize the performance of the vehicle. Vivid Racing has partnered with Agency Power who produces some of the best quality, race tested components on the market for the Porsche turbo vehicle. We include the performance exhaust system, VTG racing headers, high flow intercoolers, silicone boost hoses, and our powerful carbon fiber cold air intake kit. These products in combination with the turbos and ECU flash help launch your vehicle to the next level.

For those owners with a 6speed manual transmission on the Porsche Turbo, we recommend upgrading your Clutch to the Clutch Masters Stage 3 Unit as well. This full disk is designed to hold up to 800 horsepower with an OEM feel. The easy engagement comes from Clutch Masters fiber tough material and steel backing disk which is built from OEM Sachs clutch components. This clutch will hold all the power you need on the street, strip, or track.

This kit can be customized if you already have some of the included products. Vivid Racing offers vehicle transportation and installation at our Arizona facility. If you have any questions regarding this package, please contact us at porsche@vividracing.com.

VR700 Performance Kit Released for Nissan GT-R Owners

Publishsed by Dan on April 1st, 2009 | Posted in Product Info | No Comments »

Vivid Racing has taken our experience from our Project GT-R to create our performance package kit, the VR700.  The Nissan GT-R, nicknamed Godzilla, has an incredible platform to not only gain horsepower, but improve driveability and functionality.  Our goal was to utilize safe and reliable products to assemble a kit that would not stress the factory motor, turbos, or void your warranty (check with your local dealer first) with these basic bolt on products.  As tested on our Mustang AWD dyno here in Arizona, our VR700 GT-R made incredible power to the wheels on 100 octane race gas.  Below we outline the modifications used to obtain this performance.

Improving exhaust flow on any turbo charged car is extremely important.  Vivid Racing uses the Meisterschaft exhaust system with midpipe to accomplish this.  The all stainless steel exhaust features 3 inch tubing with a resonator on the midpipe to give you that exotic GT-R sound.  The rear muffler section has quad tips that are more stout then the OEM pieces.  The exhaust fits with all factory hangers and is a bolt on unit.  To complete the exhaust system and help those turbos stay spooled up without any restriction, we add the 5Zigen catless downpipes.  These downpipes remove the factory catalytic converters which are one of the biggest restriction on the exhaust system.  The reduction of back pressure helps boost come on much more earlier and you will notice the throttle response.

Next we will improve the intake system.  Just like the exhaust getting air out, the intakes on a turbo charged vehicle need to get alot of air in.  Agency Power designed and tested these cold air intakes on our GT-R to assure the performance was there.  The GT-R front bumper has great air ducting to the stock box.  What Agency Power does is utilize a K&N cone filter with top inlet to gain more air flow into the system.  The Intakes feature an aluminum intake pipe with a CNC machined MAF sensor mount.  Both intakes fit in replace of the stock unit to give you better air flow then the stock box could handle.  Our next upgrade is to add larger intercooler piping.  At this horsepower rating, reducing the restriction of the stock intercooler pipes can greatly improve performance.  Agency Power created both the top and bottom intercooler pipes in 3 inch aluminum to achieve this.  Each top intercooler pipe features a CNC machined aluminum flange to install the factory recirculation valves or our Agency Power valves included in the kit.  The Agency Power valves are designed to be set up 50/50.  This allows air to recirculate like the stock ones, but also vent out some air to help keep the turbos spooled between shifts.  This also gives that strong whoooosh sound turbo owners have come to love.  The Agency Power blow off valves feature an adjustment knob on the top to loosen or stiffen the spring depending on the boost or driving conditions you are doing.  These 3 parts alone were tested on our Mustang dyno and achieved over 30 wheel horsepower.

The final modification that ties all these parts together is the Cobb AccessPort.  Cobb Tuning imported a GT-R from Japan months before the release of the vehicle into the USA.  This allowed them to get a head start on the tuning needed for this vehicle.  The Cobb AccessPort alters the boost, fuel, and timing in different stage maps through the OBDII port.  You can easily change the map depending on the octane you are running as well.  Each AccessPort includes a pump gas and race gas map.  Our final number was achieved using 100 octane which put almost 560 horsepower to the wheels.  The Mustang dyno is known as one of the lower reading dynamometers out there.  To figure out the crank horsepower, we multiply our wheel horsepower number by 1.25 to get 700.

Vivid Racing’s 700HP Performance Kit is available to be sold worldwide.  We do offer installation services here in Arizona and recommend you check out our Service Department here for a quote.  We also offer vehicle transportation to and from for those that wish to have Vivid Racing install this performance kit.
