Softronic Porsche 996TT ECU Flash with FREE Diagnostic Software

Publishsed by Dan on April 10th, 2008 | Posted in Product Info | No Comments »

This offer is for the remainder of April 2008 for Softronic ECU flash including a FREE Diagnostic (Durametic) ECU Flash cable which is a $265 value. This is for all 996TT, X50, GT2, K24/18G, AP 650 or AP 700 ECU Flashes. - Total price is $1995

First, how does the Softronic ECU Flash work? Simple, once you receive your cable, plug it into your OBDII Port and a Windows laptop with internet and follow these instructions - http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/p…?cID=10&pID=45. No need to remove your ECU, go to a shop, or have downtime with your car. You keep access to your stock file, no need to purchase a seperate race file since Softronic tunes off the factory knock and oxygen sensor. If you decide to upgrade turbos or make major modifications, only $300 for the revision!

Reflashing your stock K16 Turbo 996TT will gain you about 80HP and 90ft/lbs of torque. Add diverter valves, an intake kit, and exhaust to see almost a 110HP gain.  View product info here - http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/softronic-m-390.html

Now what is the Diagnostic Software good for???
Reset service reminders
Reads diagnostic trouble codes
Displays actual values
Shows ECU information
Clears diagnostic trouble codes
Turns off check engine light
Turns off airbag light
Actvates functions (Drive Links)

What systems does it work on?
DME
Airbag
ABS
Tiptronic
Alarm
Seat Memory
Heating & A/C
And more…

Can it really turn off my airbag light?
YES! Not only can the system turn off the airbag light but it can tell you why it is on in the first place.

How is your product different from the OBD2 products available?
Our product communicates with your car just like the factory tool does, and can access all of the systems in the car. OBD2 was created for emissions related problems and only covers a limited subset of your car’s engine.

AP 650 Kit + Softronic ECU Tune + RC 60lb Injectors + Innovative IC Pipe Kit + ClutchMasters Stage 3 Clutch = 700 crank horsepower.

So basically way back when we wanted to make a difference and do something on the mass market level to compete with the traditional Porsche shops. This all started with our AP AFI 650 Kit. That in itself was a project that went well and since we launched the kit in December, we have sold about 10 kits worldwide. Not bad for a $11K price tag. Well the skinny here is that we wanted to have a “700HP” kit that destroyed the Porsche tax pricing, came with amazing quality parts, and worked efficient. So here it is…

We took the basic 650 kit that we run with true Garrett GT2860rs turbos and Tial 44mm wastegates and added 2 basic mods. The Innovative Auto intercooler pipe kit and 60lbs injectors. First we reverted back to the 3.8bar FPR as the injectors provided adequate fueling. The RC injectors are a DIRECT replacement for the factory ones. They plug and play with no modification to the fuel rail unlike others. The intercooler pipe kit gave much needed air flow to the turbos. Running what is safe to say 95octane (mix of 91 and 109, just being honest) at 1.4bar of boost. Great for the track and drag passes, but nice to know we can turn down the Greddy to 1.1 and safely cruise on the streets on 91octane while still putting out feary.

Obviously my stock clutch wanted to hold no longer, so we hooked up with our Clutch partner, ClutchMasters, who produces clutch kits for many others. Luis provided me with his “stage 3″ setup which uses a Sach pressure plate and disk beefed up by them. The 8puck Kevlar face can hold the power plenty and is very streetable. 1st gear is a little grabby, but not bad. I decided to keep the stock flywheel. Aasco does have a lightweight single mass flywheel that you can use. Feedback from one of my customers on this is it is a little chattery, and there are some small gains to notice because of the weight reduction. Essential??? not really.

So big thanks to Vivid Crew for getting it done. Scott at Softronic for helping with the new Flash loading ECU map, Don at Innovative Auto for the intercooler pipe kit, and Luis at ClutchMasters for the grip!

Most dyno graphs you see are very smooth because of the “smoothing” applied to them which brings down the number a bit. When the smoothing is not as high, the graph appears to be VERY jagged. I wanted to post the low smoothing graph to show how clean this curve is naturally. You can see the car made a strong 568 all wheel horsepower and 622 ft/lbs of torque. We usually say that the car has a drivetrain loss between 20 - 25%.

Total price - $10800(Kit) + $600(Injectors) + $1000(IC Pipe) + $1600(Clutch) = $14,000

More Air Flow, More Fuel, More Power on our Porsche 996TT

Publishsed by Dan on February 18th, 2008 | Posted in Project Cars | 2 Comments »

Vivid Racing’s Porsche 996TT project has been one of the most indepth and learning experience cars we have done. Having engineered and tuned many new parts for the 996 Turbo market from our car, we still have the urge to keep going to the next level. After the completion of our 650 Turbo Kit, we wanted to squeeze some more horsepower out of the car. We needed more air flow and more fuel!

First, we added the Innovative Auto Intercooler Pipe Kit as seen HERE. This pipe kit is designed to replace the factory intercooler cooler ducting which is very restrictive due to the shape of the pipe behind the motor and its cast piece to the factory intake. The Innovative Auto component features an aluminum intake tube that flows much more volume of air without any major restrictions like the factory unit. The kit uses strong durable flex hose to connect to the turbo inlets for the best air flow possible. Suggested, this kit is suppose to add 30-40 horsepower to basic stage 2 cars… We are testing that now!

Next to keep the air flow going, we added our Prototype Agency Power Intake Plenum. The 70mm plenum features CNC machined flanges to connect to the throttle body and the stock intake manifolds. The curved piping helps the plenum direct the air in a more efficient manner as well as increase volume. This part is a direct bolt in replacement of the stock plastic plenum. Suggested, the plenum should add about 20 horsepower on a stage 2 car… We will see!

Finally, to increase fuel, we upgraded the factory injectors with RC Engineering 60lbs injectors. These injectors are a direct replacement for the stock ones. Fitting in the fuel rail with no modifications, the injectors are designed to reduce the injector duty cycle percent as we increase boost and advance timing for more power. View our fuel components HERE.

These 3 modifications are very labor intensive. As seen in the gallery, the entire engine had to be dropped. Our technician was able to pull the motor and put it back together in 2 days. While the motor is out, it is a good time to replace your clutch, we skipped it though .

We plan on finishing our ECU Tuning and will have new dyno results shortly, so stay tuned….
