Vivid Racing Pimps Skateboard Icon Bucky Lasek’s Porsche 996TT

Publishsed by Dan on January 12th, 2010 | Posted in Client Cars | No Comments »

When professional vert skateboarding legend Bucky Lasek picked up his 2001 Porsche 996 Turbo, he needed get rid of that stock status!  So he turned to Vivid Racing to gear up!  Coming from a fully built Supercharged BMW M3, Bucky was used big Brembo Brakes, Vorsteiner aero parts, Bilstein Coilovers, and some amazing 3pc wheels.  With no sound, stock ride height, and lacking that look, VR has pointed this 996TT in a new direction.  Now that the BMW M3 is sold and shipped off across the country, Bucky needed to being the process.  So we first flashed his car with Softronic ECU Tuning.  The Porsche 996TT isinherently laggy till the turbos kick in.  With the Softronic ECU Flash, his 996 Turbo came alive by giving him better throttle response, smoother power band, and a big increase in TQ and HP.  In addition to the ECU flash, Bucky also added some Agency Power diverter valves, an Agency Power exhaust system, and a K&N flat panel filter.  These mods combined add 100HP to the car!  Not only can he skate, he can drive, check out www.lasekracing.com.  So before his upcoming track day, we hooked him up with some Brembo 2pc replacement rotors for his 4piston calipers, Pagid RS19 brake pads, and some Agency Power brake lines.  In the meantime while he hammers out his wheel decision, the stock turbo twists were painted black and some H&R 7mm and 14mm spacers were added for a flush fit.  Finishing off the handling situation is a set of Bilstein PSS10 coilovers to be installed.  In the looks department, Bucky is about to add a MaShaw GT2 Front Bumper and Rear GT2 decklid/wing for a much improved look.  Stay tuned for updates on his project build and magazine coverage.  Thanks for the support Bucky.

EVO X Runs a 455whp with ETS HAT86

Publishsed by Mitch on December 24th, 2009 | Posted in Tuning & Tech | No Comments »

Hello,

I have been tuning this car at the shop and trying to get some bugs sorted out and finally got everything worked out.

Now this car was acting strange from the get go. The car started life with the twin scroll HTA86 with a .78 on the backside. The car would spool stupid fast but after 18-19psi the car would get way backed up and you can see it in the curve as it would start to U.

EVO X with HT86 and Supporting Mods

So after talking with ETS we went with just a single scroll .82 T3. The spool is slower for sure but it woke way up in terms of power!!

Now I ran into another problem that I would like to share with the rest of the community as I don’t know if anyone else has run into it.

I could do pulls when the car is cold and it would pull fine and make pretty solid power, around 390 on 22psi. But once the car started to get hot it would fall on its face. I boost leaked checked, ran over everything and I just could not figure out what was going on.

When I was doing pulls it would feel like the power band was “light”. It just felt like a misfire but it didn’t really sound like it. So to just to test my paranoia I put the stock coils and the stock plugs in and bam! The car went from falling on its face at 360 to 454 in just one pull!

I didn’t run a test to determine if it was the plugs or the coils but my guess is the coils. They acted like the dwell was too long and heat was saturating the coils. Sometime in the future I want to put them on the O scope and measure it but that is for another day.

This is back to back between the Okada coils and the stock EVO X coils.

Anyways here is the mod list:
EVO X GSR
Stock Block
DW 1000cc Inj
91 pump fuel
ETS HTA86 Turbo Kit
Cobb AP
FMIC
Custom Intake and UICP
Kelford Cams-Stage 1

This is really high for our dyno. Normally Evo X’s with 35r’s do around 420hp-430 max. This HTA really screams!
