Perrin Cold Air Intake System Subaru WRX STI 08+

Increase horsepower and style under your hood with a PERRIN Cold air intake system. This new 08 Intake was designed from the beginning to be a cold air intake. This provides much better more consistent HP and better drivability in all conditions. Perrin also found that the stock intake does get heat soaked and causes a loss in power due to the high temps the sensor sees.

In designing, their research team found that the proper MAF alignment and plumbing size are crucial to maintain proper air fuel ratios and prevent nasty check engine lights and cause the car to run dangerously lean. While this is very true Perrin has found that the new 08 MAF sensor is much different that MAF sensors in the past. This new MAF sensor is much more sensitive and the intake does throw off the MAF curve resulting in the car running differently than normal

With this said, it is very important to note that Perrin's intake is OK to bolt onto a stock tuned ECU vehicle. It is NOT OK to bolt onto a car with a custom tuned ECU vehicle. Because the intake does change how the car runs on a tuned map, Perrin offers Specific PERRIN custom tuned maps for their intake. If you are already a customer of the PERRIN Custom tuned Maps, these will be provided for free if you purchased the intake. If you are not a customer of the PERRIN Map program, you can simply order one of their custom maps through their website.

You will see consistent gains in horsepower, throttle response and fuel economy. Also available in a cold air version for those wishing to extract every last bit of power from an intake system. Each Intake System include colorful and powder coated aluminum and silicone tubing, a PERRIN PerformanceTM foam air filter, MAF sensor housing and mounting hardware.

As we have stated before, the 08 WRX and STI PERRIN Intake systems do change the Air flow readings at the MAF sensor slightly. This affects the Air fuel ratio of the car and makes it run slightly lean. This is ok on a stock car as it runs very rich to start with. But with that said any customer tuned AP maps need special mapping for the intake to work correctly. This also holds true for all other custom mapping of the ECU.

With that said when Perrin did back to back testing of the intake; they did have to tune the ECU to make the Air Fuel Ratio the same between runs. This normally doesn't make for a perfect back to back test because of the ECU tuning. But all they did was modify the MAF curve of the ECU which brought the AFR's back to where they were the first run.

The first graph shows the AFR before and after to prove there was no trickery going on.

The Second Graph run is done with Perrin's exsiting Stage 2 tune in place. The run showing the gain in HP has the same timing curve and Air Fuel ratio as the other run. This proves the intake makes HP by being freer flowing not by changing the fuel or timing or boost for that matter.
