Making power on your Porsche 996 Turbo, X50, or GT2 is as easy as adding an exhaust and a ECU Flash. But what happens when you take the stock boost of .6-.7bar (K16 Turbos) and double it? The factory wastegates can really limit how power is delivered to your Porsche Turbo reducing performance. With the Agency Power 1.0bar wastegate actuator kit, this can all changed.
A wastegate is simply a turbine bypass valve. It works by diverting some portion of the exhaust gas around, instead of through, the turbine. This limits the amount of power that the turbine can deliver to the compressor, t HEREby limiting the turbo speed and boost level that the compressor provides. When this boost level is reached, the valve will open and begin to bypass exhaust gas, preventing boost from increasing. The factory wastegate spring on the K16 or K24 turbos has to work much harder then the ECU programmed boost level. Usually this means that as the boost solenoid takes over keeping the wastegate shut, it is struggling to keep the boost delivery. A 1.0bar wastegate running manifold pressure only will make 1.0bar or 14.3psi of boost. This means that with the control of the factory or external boost controller, the wastegates will stay shut until the spring limit is reached and open up at 1.0bar giving you much more responsive and immediate power delivery all the way to redline. Since most ECU tuned cars are running 1.1-1.3bar of boost, these upgraded wastegates can be largely beneficial.
