Instructions for the VR Flash

Hey Everybody. Here is the instructions for the new VR Flash. If any of you are in an area where you dont have a tuner and need a tune for your Subaru or Evolution this is the way to do it!!


Materials Needed:

- Laptop
- Tactrix Cable for your application IE- Subaru or Mitsubishi
- OpenECU
- Datalogger such as Mitsulogger for Mitsubishi or ECU Explorer for the Subaru




First Step:
If you have downloaded Open ECU then you will need to open it on your computer. Start the program and Unzip the folder with OpenECU in it. Double Click on the OpenECU .exe file and let it open. Have the Tactrix cable plugged into a USB port on your computer while opening the software and installing the drivers for the software and cable. If everything installs correctly then when you open OpenECU it should say OpenPort 1.3 Mitsubishi Tx34MYIS or something to that effect.



Step Two:

Now that you have the flashing software installed correctly you can move to getting your ECU information pulled off of the computer. The first thing that you are going to have to is to locate where to plug in the cable under the dash. Under the driver’s side dash under the steering wheel, closest to the center console are 2 plugs. One is white and one is black. The plugs will install to the same color connector. IE—Black cable to back connector, White to White.




Step 3:

Once you have the connector connected you are ready to begin! So now go back to the Open ECU software and open it up if you closed it out. At the top toolbar there will be an icon that says Read from ECU. It should have what looks like a chip and a BLUE arrow coming off of it.
Now that you are connected hit that button with the keys in the ignition and in the on position. The software will prompt you with instructions on what to do.

Once the ECU pulls all of the data off of your ECU you HAVE GOT TO GO TO FILE SAVE AS Then name the file with your name and the date EX- John Smith-10/07/2007.hex. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT





Step 4:

Ok now that you have the file you are almost there. Once you get the ROM file off save it somewhere where know where it is and email it to Mitch@vividracing.com or tuning@vividracing.com. Now the next step is to start datalogging!!!


Step 5:

Ok for this next step you have to download either Mitsulogger or ECU Explorer. So go ahead and start either of these programs. For Mitsulogger you will need to Unzip it and go to the Mitsulogger.exe file and open it up.

Now you will see that once you do this it will bring up a dashboard and a logger with a bunch of different parameters. The ones that we need to make sure that you get a good final tune are these:


These will help to give you the most complete tune. Just put a check mark next to these parameters and uncheck the rest of them.

Now when you click the start logging button it will bring up begin the logging process.

Step 6:

Now getting a good solid datalog is very important when getting the VR flash. In order to do this start out in 3rd gear at around 2500rpm’s. Do a full acceleration pull all the way to red line. Once you have done this then hit the stop logging button. Make sure you pay attention to where the datalog file saves, as you will need to send this file to Vivid Racing. Once again once you have found the file send it to either Mitch@vividracing.com or Tuning@vividracing.com.



Step 7:

So now that you are done with the datalog you are almost done!!. Once Vivid Racing receives the emails of your ROM and the datalogs we modify them and then send them back to you. The next step will show you how to load the ROM back onto the car once we get done modifying it.


You will open your email and you will have an email from Vivid Racing. Attached to that email is going to be a file that will end in John Smith 10/07/2007 Rev1.hex. Where it says REV in the file name just means that it is a revision and then the number corresponding too it. So you will save this file to somewhere you will remember where it is. The desktop is good as it is easy to find.

Now open EcuFlash and then go to FileOpen ROM Open the file that Vivid Racing sent back to you.

Make sure that you connect your Tactrix cable. If you do not remember how to connect them please refer to Step 3.

Now you will need to hit Write to ECU. It will be a RED arrow on a chip.




Once you hit this button it will prompt you to make sure the ignition is turned on and the OK button is clicked within 5 seconds. Make sure to follow all directions.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!
When the flashing is occurring DO NOT TRY TO CLOSE OUT OF THE SOFTWARE OR DISCONNECT AS IT WILL DAMAGE YOUR ECU!!


Step 8:

After this as successfully written to the ECU then shut the key to off for about 30 seconds and then start the car. You are now ready to enjoy the added benefit of the VR Flash. For a more exact tune, repeat these steps until the car is 100% complete and ready to go. It will have all the effects of going somewhere to have a tuner do but for a fraction of the cost!!






Additional Items On the Flash;

2step- Rev Limit—Of you have a Mitsubishi 8 or 9 then you will now have the the 2 step rev limiter. In order to activate it the vehicle must be at a complete stop then proceed to put the car in gear and stand on the gas pedal. You will notice that it stops at 5500 RPMS. As soon as you have a green light all you have to do is let go of the clutch and hold on. NOTE—Excessive launching on an AWD car can cause damage to driveline parts!!!

Boost Control—Please make sure that if you have a boost gauge in the car that the boost does not exceed a dangerous level.
