Function 5 - Where can you jam your hand? Time for some suspension.
Function 5 - Where can you jam your hand? Time for some suspension.

After our wheel change, you could basically pleasure the wheel well with your entire hand. Not only will we not stand for it, but we will not ride on stock suspension. With such great experiences on our Vivid WRX, we decided to use what has worked for us, Tein Flex coilovers with the EDFC unit. Do you need to change, what is the benefit, how did it work? All you questions will be answered as well as a link to our install with pics, problems, and more on the Vivid EVO receiving some new legs.

Tein coilovers are designed for street, track, and other racing applications. With 16 way adjustable dampening from inside the car, adjustable height, pillow ball mounts to adjust camber, and a reasonable price of about $1600, it cannot be beat. The coilovers keep their trademark green color and are a true JDM performance handling part. With progressive springs a rate that will be comfortable for daily driving and racing, the Tein was the choice for Project EVO.

Installing the coilovers on the EVO was not difficult. Taking about 3 hours, the install went smooth and without issue. Just make sure you remember how your brake line attaches! For a complete install with pics, tips, and more, click HERE. All 4 corners were complete, double checked, and then the car was lowered. The look was amazing to get rid of that ugly wheel gap. All 4 corners were level and all that needed to be adjusted was an alignment.

Overall impressions? Just like our WRX the EDFC allowed for quick adjustability of the dampening for different conditions which was nice. The ride firmed up and taking corners at high speed had less body roll. With the addition in the future of strut bars, sway bars, and some dialing in the suspension, we think it will handle like a train on tracks! Now back to the power...
