Let the Prototyping Begin - 08 WRX Exhaust and BOV
Let the Prototyping Begin - 08 WRX Exhaust and BOV
Published by vividracing

Vivid Racing in collaboration with Agency Power have begun development of products on their 2008 Subaru WRX wagon. The first toys to be made were the catback exhaust and the blow off valve.

The catback exhaust features a complete 3 inch system using 321 stainless steel. The TIG welds offer a flawless design which enters a small muffer with a straight through design for minimal back pressure. Coming out of the muffler is a 90 degree bend which opens to a 4 inch Titanium Tip. This prototype is pretty close to the production piece. We may look at doing a DUAL titanium tip like the Agency Power M3 system. We may even do the canister full titanium for weight savings. We will have before and after dyno results shortly.

In addition to the exhaust system, we have completed steps for our bolt on Blow Off Valve kit for the 2008 WRX/STI. The BOV like the older 02-07 WRX/STI is able to be setup as a 50/50 or 100% atmospheric design. The valve is fully adjustable depending on the boost pressure you are running. These valves have been tested up to 40psi. The valve is all CNC machined aluminum here in Arizona. It will feature a Horn for the vent to atmosphere side.

Here is the before and after Dyno. The car achieved great gains as the factory exhaust was very restrictive. The 3 inch piping increased exhaust flow alot as well as helped with the extreme boost drop you saw on the video screen. Boost went from 14psi down to about 8psi but with the exhaust, it was held strong. That is why we see a great gain in HP and TQ. The AFR was kept consistant and as you can see by the Dyno Sheet, all variables remained the same. With our new exhaust test, the room was actually 8 degrees hotter!

No other mods have been done to the car. We will be testing our crank pulley next.
