now if the figure that goose found was for torque then there is almost a 50% increase in torque with the turbo kit he seen in turbo mag. if that figure was for HP @ the wheels then there isnt much of an increase in power.

It's confirmed. It is the Greddy kit they installed. And my mistake it's actually 235 to the wheels. Its in Aprils Turbo mag with the write up on motor swaps if somebody wants to check it out. I might be talking out of my Ass here, but I heard Mazda was way high on the power numbers they published for the 8 when it came out and alot of original owners were getting pissed when they took the cars to the dyno for the first time. As always maybe Mindtrip could answer better though.

Im not sure about mazda being wrong about the HP, wouldnt surprise me though b/c they lied about MPG.
And 238 to the wheels might not be that much of an increase but keep in mind how friggin light the car is.

First, Mazda responded by saying the RX-8 has sensors saying that if it was put up to a dyno, sensors on the front wheels would detect no movement and the ECU would detune the engine to make it run cooler (since Rotaries make excessive amounts of heat and no air would be flowing through). Then, a couple months after the car was released, they cut the bullshit and issued a response saying the HP should actually be rated at 238. They offered owners who already bought the car a chance to turn their car in and get a full refund (no matter how much mileage they had! ) or get a 2 year extension on their warranty.Mazda previously had done this with the Miata when it initially came out. HP was rated higher than it was. Hyundai had the same thing with his Tiburon GT V6 when it came out. The info they gave during the first half year it was out was it had 181hp and I think 200lbs/tq (Which was very respectable engine ratings). Then car mags/owners took it to the dyno/track and found the car was running/dynoing alot slower than it should be. Hyundai then said they made the mistake of saying the advertised HP rating was actually the engines torque rating of 181lbs/tq, horsepower dropped down to 170ish. Hyundai then gave owners a 2 year extension on their choice of warranties. People who chose the 2 year extension on the powertrain got a whopping 12 year/120,000 mile warranty!!!!!! Make me kinda wish I bought a Tibby when it first came out to use as a beater car. |

Allright. At least I'm not the only one that had heard about that happening.
