Help Re-open AMP>
Hi All,
Anyone who has driven or attended an event at the new AMP racetrack knows that it is one of the most challenging, safest, well designed, and just plain fun tracks ever. It was closed January of 2004 due to complaints from local residents and presumed misrepresentation by the owner when the permit was granted. I personally attended the community hearings prior to the closure and took the podium with my views on the value and advantages of such a fine track, but met with extreme opposition from the local residents; opponents outnumbered proponents by about 20 to one, and were not shy about wishing the worst to anyone in favor of the track. Recent attempts to re-open the track have been minimally successful, and a Public Hearing is scheduled in Goodyear next Wednesday; here is the article from the AZ Republic: Public Hearing Set On Auto Racing Track Residents can express their feelings regarding Arizona Motorsports Park at a public hearing set for 7:00 p.m. Wednesday in the auditorium at Millennium High School, 14802 W. Wigwam Blvd., Goodyear. The auto-racing track, at 15402 cW. Camelback Road, was shut down in January 2004 due to numerous complaints from residents. Track owners have applied for a special-use permit from the county to reopen the track. I would like to encourage everyone to attend this meeting, and show our support for reopening the track. The term "auto-racing track" has been tagged to this facility, and even though it can & hopefully will be used for this purpose, there are many other uses that are very valuable and beneficial to the community that are buried in the negative views that prompted the closure. Automotive (to include HPDE type programs) and motorcycle driver training, autocross and similar events that give sportsminded auto enthusiasts a place other than the streets to enjoy their hobby, safety programs, and the like should be brought to the forefront; many non-enthusiast local residents see the track simply as a negative influence on the local property values, and a source for unwanted excessive noise and an undesireable nusance. Please consider attending, and speaking up for the good that comes from such a fine track; please pass this message on to anyone who may be interested in attending or giving support, and lets show the local residents that we can and will be an asset (fiscally and socially) to the area. Feel free to eMail me, and again, tell a friend; this is our best shot to show we are responsible citizens and want it to work in the best interest of the residents, and the good of all autosports enthusiasts. Cheers, Warren P. Warner (623) 933-1118 Anyone that can go, should. Let them know that F18's are much louder than race cars, since residents are apparently too stupid to figure that out for themselves.

I don't know what the story is. Last I heard the owners won some sort of court battle so it was on it's way to being re-opened. Who knows though. People are stupid, they move right next to an established Air Force base then complain that it's noisy.

These Are Also Some Of The Same People That Will
And Moan When Nascar Comes To PIR. They Still Say Its Too Loud. Now That Nascar Comes To The Valley Two Times A Year It Will Bring In Double The Revenue And Yet Still Goodyear Residents Will Complain. Of Course PIR Was Built Before A Lot Of These Homes Were Complete So It Had A Fighting Chance. Now I Know That This Track Won't Bring In Such A Gross Income But Like You Said It Has So Many Other Potential Earnings. Not Only To Us But THe Communtiy As Well. Hopefully They Did Win The Court Battle And Maybe Vivid Could Get In Contact With Them And Have Some Sort Of Sponsored Track Day. That Would Be Awesome
