The Vintage Wheels starts as a 6061-T6 rotary forged aluminum center. These proprietary designs are made for strength and weight savings. Available in various styles and depths, the wheels are finished off with a lightweight 6061-T6 barrel with a double rolled edge. Since these wheels are designed for the Hot Rod market, you can imagine that large brakes will come into play, and that aspect has been addressed by Billet Specialties with a recessed bolt pad and sufficient clearance for most aftermarket brake calipers, providing up to 1-3/4 inches of caliper clearance.
Weight, and especially unsprung weight, are huge considerations when it comes to setting up a car. Multi-piece wheels are changing, and Billet Specialties is at the forefront of some of these developments. The two-piece design of the Vintage Series eliminates the extra weight attributed to additional unsprung weight and increased inertia. Billet Specialties made sure the hardware located at the outer edge of the wheel, the moment of inertia is increased. However, the Vintage Series wheel has no hardware, which reduces the moment of inertia. Additionally, while unsprung weight does not affect acceleration or top speed, the reduction of unsprung weight on a Pro-Touring car may reduce lap times due to improved control and suspension performance.
