Porsche makes some of the best sports cars in the world. The GT3 and GT3RS are some of the fastest road legal cars ever. While it would be awesome to have one of those Porsches, not everyone can afford one. For the common man there is the 911 Carrera, and with some simple modifications, you can turn a Carrera into quite the competent sports car.
One of those simple modifications is an ECU tune. This adds power to your Porsche by changing the engine’s parameters such as fuel ratios, ignition timing, limiters, and other parameters. In case you didn’t already know, here at Vivid Racing, we are huge Porsche fans. Our tuning division, VR Tuned, has worked on hard developing ECU tunes for all sorts of Porsche vehicles. Our 996 Carrera is what we’re talking about right now though, so let’s take a look at the numbers:
- 3.4L 996 Carrera Stock Power: 300HP and 258 ft-lbs
- 3.4L 996 Carrera Tuned Power: 322HP and 271 ft-lbs
- 3.6L 996 Carrera Stock Power: 320HP and 273 ft-lbs
- 3.6L 996 Carrera Tuned Power: 340HP and 286 ft-lbs
As you can see from the numbers, our VR Tuned ECU flashes for the 996 Carrera increase power by about 6-7% over stock. On top of the increased horsepower is much-improved throttle response. This will make your 996 Carrera feel way faster off of the line and faster when accelerating out of corners.
