Akrapovic’s latest supercar exhaust is for the Ferrari 488 GTB – arguably one of the most technologically advanced cars the Italian automaker has ever produced. This Slovenian performance exhaust manufacturer has certainly developed the proper system to take this impressive car to new heights.
Akrapovic successfully developed a system for the Ferrari 458 Italia and Spider, but creating a performance exhaust for the new 488 GTB was a completely different story. Using state-of-the-art manufacturing and design techniques, including the latest innovations in materials and sound engineering, Akrapovic has produced an exhaust that does it all – reduces weight, increases power, and offers a unique soundtrack.
The Akrapovic slip-on exhaust is constructed using high-grade, ultra-lightweight special titanium alloys, with parts cast at Akrapovic’s in-house foundry, providing a weight reduction of 35.2% over the stock exhaust. To release the power from the Ferrari’s V8 turbo engine, the slip-on line has larger-diameter tubes to assist airflow and a different system configuration to lower backpressure, all designed to increase the performance levels of this already impressive car.
Akrapovic’s sound engineers have also worked intensely to create a tone perfectly suited to the car without raising the levels. This remarkable system is finished with a carbon-fiber outer sleeve on the tailpipes, all designed to increase the look of the exhaust and the rear of the Ferrari 488 GTB.
Note: This Slip-On Line exhaust system (MTP-FE488H) is CARB-compliant.
Akrapovic Link Pipes: The slip-on line exhaust can be further enhanced with the addition of Akrapovic optional link pipe sets, with or without catalytic converters. The further tuning opportunities offered by these stainless-steel link pipes take the Ferrari 488 GTB on to even greater performance levels. The optional link pipe set with catalytic converters features 200 CPSI high-flow high-quality metal cats and larger insulated tubes. This delivers an increase in performance due to less restricted flow through the cat and lowered backpressure, resulting in increased power.
Sound levels will also be enhanced with an increase of 10 dB in external sound performance, and this emphasizes the character of the engine to provide more of the traditional V8 flat crank feel and add a greater feeling of listening pleasure, especially at high revs. The optional link pipe set without catalytic converters takes the 488 GTB to even greater heights, giving it the ultimate in sound performance and sportiness. The Akrapovic sound engineers have taken the tuning further and developed a sound that is very close to that of the 458 Italia, giving it a tone similar to a naturally aspirated V8 power plant. Constructed with larger-diameter straight tubes, it is designed to reduce backpressure to a minimum and ensure that the highest engine tuning potential for optimal power increase is achieved.
Note: When fitting the optional link pipe sets, either with or without catalytic converters, remapping the car’s ECU is necessary.
