One of the best parts about the S550 chassis is the rear suspension which no longer uses the old live-rear-axle design. Instead, it uses modern independent rear suspension which helps the rear end stay planted during mid-corner bumps, ultimately making the car better at handling. For enthusiasts who want to hit the drag strip, the independent rear suspension suffers from wheel hop and overall isn’t as strong, especially if you plan on launching your Mustang with drag slicks. If you want to get rid of the wheel hop and strength the rear suspension, the OEM vertical links have to go; this is where Voodoo13 comes in with their new adjustable rear vertical links.
The purpose of the vertical link is to limit the rotational movement of the spindle. When you accelerate the force of the axle shaft moving transfer to the spindle the axle shaft is bolted to. If the spindle isn’t held in place, it will rotate and bind up other suspension bushings; this is how wheel-hop can start in some instances. The vertical link is bolted to the lower arm and the spindle. As the spindle tries to rotate from accelerating or braking the vertical link and lower control arm will limit its movement.
Unfortunately, the factory vertical link is made from stamped steel and is relatively weak. On top of the flimsy metal, the bushing is relatively soft to reduce how much road noises is transferred to the cab, plus they aren’t adjustable. Voodoo13 fixed all these problems by using strong USA sourced high-quality 6061-T6 aluminum from only the best material suppliers, and spherical rod ends on each side.
