N-Fab is one of the leaders in off-road bumpers, side steps, and roof racks for vehicles like our Toyota Tundra TRD Pro. Covering many other trucks and SUVs like the Ford Raptor, Toyota 4Runner, and Chevy 1500, the Texas based company is known for their heavy duty, high-end, high-quality tubular parts. Part of our Project TRD Pro was to get that Pre-Runner look. With the wheels and power already done, the exterior was naturally next. I was personally sold on this front bumper based on the aggressive look of their marketing photo featuring Pro Comp fenders and a mega 40″ light bar by Rigid (see here).
The RDS front bumper is beefy featuring great tubular lines to help the front end flow as if it was stock. It has an ultra sturdy skid plate built in and once installed, provides a great sense of safety up front. The bumper ships in a massive freight box considering its strong steel construction. Installation is about 1-2 hours requiring many small bolts and clips to be removed. Once done, the stock TRD Toyota grill helps tie in the textured black powder coat finish. Since we had the Magnuson Supercharger, we had to make a slight modification to move the pump for the air to water intercooler. The bumper includes brackets to mount a light bar. The opening will accommodate a 40 inch straight light bar from Rigid or a very snug fit from a 42 inch Baja Designs light bar.

The side steps we choose were one of the Patented N-Fab nerf bars with 3rd bed access step. These are a great design and couldn’t be any easier to install. The fit directly into the body mounts with bolts that Toyota already has. Each side step literally takes about 20 minutes to install. The matching textured black coated steps are tubular with sturdy N-Fab logo steps featuring a grip design for a firm grip to the shoes. Because I did not lift the truck and this was on stock TRD Pro Bilstein suspension, my only complaint would be how it makes the truck look lower. This is an awesome side step and look even better on lifted trucks.

The final piece of the N-Fab setup is their pre-runner style rear bumper. This bumper is definitely aggressive and fits the styling of the rest of the pieces. It did have mixed emotions from some of the staff but the overall consensus was two thumbs up. Besides the look, the way this rear bumper was styled fit the body lines perfect. The sides fit right where they needed to do flow as if it was stock. The logo braces between the top and bottom tubes were a perfect touch. Being that our truck is Cement Gray, the silverish coated parts flowed nicely. If I had another color, would probably want these pieces in matching or gloss black. The rear bumper works with the factory tow hitch no problem. There are 2 things that could be improved on the rear bumper. The first is it does not use the stock license plate lights. This is an instant reason to get pulled over. You can go to any motorcycle store and get the LED plate lights that replace the screws to hold the license plate in. These have a simple power and ground you can T-Tap into the stock light harness. However it would be nice to somehow retain the factory ones. The other change or modification to do is with the tow plug. I personally like the ability to just plug in the tow harness in. There is no spot for this so you have to remove the ovalized adapter plug and just zip tie your main plug under the truck. However you can use the metal frame that comes off your stock bumper as a template to cut into the silver plate to reuse the factory style adapter plug. The rear bumper takes a friend or professional to install as there is a lot to remove and line up. Once done, its fit and looks are amazing. I would give the rear bumper about a 2 hour install time.
