Carbon fiber is known to many as the ultimate material for automotive vehicles. First used in the 1800s for light bulb filaments, carbon fiber has not reached its full potential until more recently. Up until the mid-1900s it was seen as an inferior material as it was brittle and difficult to work with. It wasn’t until the ’60s when carbon fiber was re-invented and its true capabilities were discovered.
Carbon fiber can now be found in automotive, aviation, watercraft, architecture, and many other operations. Yielding a massive tensile strength compared to fiberglass, the automotive industry adopted the material, utilizing it for structural components, full-body panels, and even wheels. The various uses of carbon fiber began developing more recently as it offers such high tensile strength and weight savings compared to other materials being used.
AutoTecknic has been utilizing carbon fiber in every which way they can to provide a quality, lightweight, product for your vehicle. Their latest release is aero splitters for the front bumper of the F10 BMW M5. With this new product, owners are able to spice up their boring front end. Nothing says “performance” like a touch of carbon fiber.
The splitters simply bolt-on to the underside of the front bumper giving a completed look to the front end. Precise fitment is achieved due to the vacuum molding process when injecting the epoxy filler. This process of vacuum forming increases durability and longevity. Using 3K 2×2 twill weave, the splitters provide a flawless construction that emphasizes the factory body lines.
