The BMW G8X M3/M4 instantly comes to mind when considering modern, high-performance sedans. With impressive German power and handling characteristics, this M car is missing an essential element that all motorsports enthusiasts chase. THE SOUND. An aggressive rumble when shifting through gears; demanding every ounce of juice from the powerplant. Many enthusiasts have left their honest opinions about this car having too much artificial sound coming into the cabin and not enough growl coming from the exhaust. Frankly, I think we can all raise a glass to that.
VR Performance has taken matters into their own hands by developing a complete titanium exhaust system for the G8X platform. Loaded with many advantages, let’s discuss some notable talking points. This exhaust comes with an electronic, Valvetronic system that gives the driver complete control of either closed values for tamed comfort or open valves for optimal flow and attacking sound. These two options of open or closed valves are manually selected with a remote installed in the car’s cabin. We tested the decibel readings of the stock exhaust vs. VR Performance exhaust with the valves closed and opened. You can check those results in the video below while giving clarity to your imagination of how this system sounds.
The exhaust doesn’t only provide a more than satisfying upgrade to the sound, with its 1.1mm thick titanium tubing and 102mm tips, but also boosts the performance of the S58 engine. The VR Performance exhaust focuses on eliminating back-pressure with 3-inch diameter tubing and utilizing pie cut bends throughout the system to eliminate as much restriction and turbulence as possible. This truly unleashes the power of the G8X. Some excellent examples of power output are represented in our results from the dyno runs provided below.
Another critical aspect of this higher performance equation is weight savings. Going with an entire titanium system has more benefits than just being able to tell your friends you have a ti-exhaust. Titanium is significantly lighter than the traditional OEM steel tubing and oversized mufflers, like 38lbs lighter. This equals less weight; less weight results in more outstanding performance. That is exactly what the doctor ordered, more power while trimming off the fat of the stock system! Now that is something we can subscribe to.

While performance and satisfying sound is everything we all want, let’s not forget about fitment and installation. Aftermarket exhausts can be a pain during installation due to the lack of attention to detail during production. This exhaust was meticulously designed with 3D scanners and CAD to create a precise fitment, so no additional adjustments are needed during installation. It also doesn’t leave a surprise check engine light after installation.
All in all, if you’re driving the G8X M3/M4 platform and are in the market for more power and want the sound to fit your car’s description, the VR Performance Titanium Exhaust is simply for you.
