Tim, however, wanted to install a few parts that would not only improve the look of it, but also be fully functional. First, let’s delve into the natural aerodynamics of the legendary GTR. Nissan built the GTR as a “supercar that sculpts the wind.” Instead of being confined by the demands of aerodynamics, Nissan built the GTR to mold the air to its needs, making it both a force of nature as well as a force to be reckoned with. No compromise was made when building the iconic GTR and Nissan made it a point to relentlessly tune its body to create an incredible Coefficient of Drag of just 0.26 Cd. If you look closely at the shape of the front fascia, side sills, C-pillar, and rear bumper lip, you’ll notice that each part was carefully crafted to cut through the air efficiently to provide the best performance possible.
The front fascia creates a small vortex to guide air around the front wheels. The contoured side sills prevent air from being drawn under the vehicle. This helps to enhance crosswind stability and maintain proper downforce. The C-pillar on the GTR is purposefully shaped to accelerate air toward the back end to increase downforce. And rear bumper lip is essentially an air outlet for increased downforce as well. A high-quality aftermarket body kit, or merely a few functional aero parts, can really enhance these natural aerodynamics to improve the handling, efficiency, and overall performance of your ride.
