Upon the release of the Subaru BRZ the Japanese car enthusiast immediately recognized a future classic. The short wheelbase, flowing body lines, and a nod to the historical AE86 made the new chassis an instant hit amongst the aftermarket community.
Manufactures became releasing heavy aftermarket support for these vehicles. One thing drivers don’t think to upgrade are the factory seats. Although the factory bolstering is sporty and holds the driver in place, it still doesn’t offer enough support under high g-force. To remedy this, many drivers resort to a bucket seat.
Our customer @thelastmohecan installed a Status Ring seat wrapped in ultra suede and constructed of carbon fiber. Not only does the Status seat compliment the interior, but it saves a significant amount of weight versus factory. The immense weight is due to the motors and other components inside the factory seat.
Replacing the seat with a carbon fiber fixed back provides the lightest option available. Additional benefits to a fixed back seat are the driving position is optimized for comfort and correct arm/leg placement. The tall hip and shoulder bolstering holds the driver in place allowing steering and pedal input to be focused on.
