Customer Spotlight: C7 Corvette with Tillett B5 Carbon GRP Race Seats

This race-ready C7 Corvette got the ultimate treatment from Tillett with new racing seats complete with the necessary seat pads, brackets, and sliders. Eric Simpson (IG: @eric_super_simpson), the owner of this strikingly beautiful Z06 ‘Vette, has certainly put a lot of heart and soul into his build. His C7 is certainly a force of nature in every aspect; it’s got all the show and the go. The overall red-and-black theme is eye-catching with matching accents throughout the exterior, interior, and engine bay.  He purchased a set of B5 Carbon GRP Race Seats from Tillett, the experts in racing seats. Tillett’s seats are all hand-sculpted into the perfect ergonomic shape using the team’s years of experience in designing products for competition karts. With an extensive history in the racing realm, Tillett’s products outperform the competition with thoroughly tested and proven seats that have been used in countless events all over the globe.

The Tillett B5 Carbon GRP seat weighs a little over 9 pounds and was originally designed to fit the very narrow Lotus Elise and Exige cars. Due to the small, narrow size of the B5 seat, it can work well and install easily into many other vehicles, like the C7 Corvette. This incredibly comfortable seat is used in many sports cars and can fit a surprisingly large range of driver sizes. What’s more, the headrest and belt holes have been specifically designed to be compatible with the Hands device. The B5 seat material is GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic), which is extremely sturdy and economical. It also features a layer of quality carbon fiber on the seating surface for that extra sporty look. Not only is the carbon fiber outer shell visually appealing, but it is also somewhat more resistant to wear and tear than the available black GRP gel coat finish.

The Tillett B5 seat has a regular road car angle (tilt is further enhanced through each bracket option) and the side profile (developed from many years of manufacturing kart seats) offers excellent support whilst leaving the shoulders free to help steer the car unhindered. This seat places the driver very low in the car to reduce the likelihood of hitting the crash helmet on the roll cage; this is a game-changer for tall drivers in lower cars. With the B5, you can actually sit within 3/4 inches of the floor pan. Since it is not a full bucket seat, it is compatible with 3-point or 5/6-point belts, making it super versatile and an excellent choice for both street and track cars. The B5 GRP seat is not only exceptionally lightweight but also very rigid, which adds to the handling feedback and ultimate feeling of security. It’s the perfect addition to this track-ready beast in terms of aesthetics, comfort, durability, and safety.

Tillett B5 Carbon GRP Race Car Seats

Because its compact exterior increases the headroom significantly, the B5 shape sits the driver very low in the car, which reduces the likelihood of hitting the crash helmet on a roll cage. Very narrow seat allows for easy installation. Lightweight at just 9.3 pounds. Usable with OEM street 3-point belts and 5/6-point racing harnesses. Available in Carbon/GRP or black GRP finish.

Tillett B5 Seat Pads 2-Piece Set

Made from Dinamica, which is a synthetic suede-like material like Alcantara, these seat pads marginally increase the seating surface height. They are an excellent choice for cars that are sometimes driven on the road, where the visual look is aided by the installation of these pads or where extra protection for the surface finish is desired.  The standard black version is a very matte finish and complements the carbon/GRP and black GRP looks perfectly.

Tillett TBB5 Seat Mounting Bracket

The TBB5 side-mounted brackets are designed for the B5 car seat in road, race, and track applications. They are made from 5 mm thick aluminum and allow the seats to be tipped, raised, and lowered. TBB5 brackets are bent at exactly 90 degrees and therefore can point inwards or outwards.

Tillett STRI Standard Inboard Seat Slider

The STRI adjustable seat sliders are designed to be used in conjunction with Tillett seat brackets. They have a hole-to-hole spacing of 31.5cm, which is the same as the majority of Tillett’s seat brackets. This slider is intended for road car use and should not be used on any track cars.
