Dodge Ram EcoDiesel ECU Flash Adds Improvement to the 3.0L V6

Back when Dodge offered the EcoDiesel option for the Ram, a lot of truck owners were super excited, as there was finally an option in-between the standard gas-powered engine and the big 6.7L Cummins. See, not everyone needs the torque of the 6.7L Cummins, but they want more torque than the gas engine offers and great fuel economy. The EcoDiesel is the perfect middle ground, but many owners find the torque to be a tiny bit lacking. Luckily, all modern diesel engines rely on a computer to control how the engine is running, which means tuning is possible.

ECU tuning is simply the process of changing the parameters the engine’s computer tries to stay within. Things like target air/fuel ratio, boost, torque limiters, and many other parameters can be adjusted to make the engine run a touch more aggressive. The effectively allows for an easy power increase without affecting long-term reliability, something many diesel owners care about. In the case of the EcoDiesel, Dodge used a pretty conservative tune, so an ECU tune offers pretty good gains. Our VR Tuned ECU flash, specifically, takes the EcoDiesel from 240 horsepower to 302 horsepower, and torque jumps from 420 ft-lbs to 484 ft-lbs. On top of the power, gains are improved throttle response and improved fuel economy.

That jump in torque will not only make towing easier and more pleasurable, but you will also see improved fuel mileage while towing. What’s even better, is the tune can adapt to future modifications assuming they are not huge modifications like a turbocharger upgrade. This means if you install an aftermarket intake or aftermarket exhaust, the ECU can adapt and optimize itself to take advantage of the increase in airflow. To put it simply, the power gains we found were with a stock EcoDiesel, and a modified one will see even larger performance gains!

As of right now, our tune cannot be done through the diagnostics port, which means your ECU needs to be sent to us so we can flash it on our tuning bench. If you have any questions about the VR Tuned ECU Flash for Dodge Ram EcoDiesel, please do not hesitate to contact us. We can be reached by phone at 1.480.966.3040 or via email at [email protected].
