E92 M3 Coilovers are one of the first suspension modifications you should do to your BMW M3. Coilovers consist of a spring and shock absorber mounted together. Typical coilovers have adjustment for ride height as well as dampening or separate rebound and compression. A good coilovers is valved according to the cars weight, the spring rate used, etc so it rides good on the street and track. A coilover that has a ton of dampening clicks does not mean it is better than the coilover with only 9 clicks or seperate adjustments for rebound and compression. The internal workings of a coilover are important too. Having a monotube shock compared to a twin tube shock will give you many advantages. With coilovers, the old addage of “you get what you pay for” is definitely true.;
For the E92 and E90 BMW M3, we recommend a couple of different brands of coilovers. The top brand for us by experience is the KW Variant 3 coilover. This coilover features adjustable ride height, independent rebound and compression, monotube shock design, helper spring, patented bump stop material to act as a 3rd spring when necessary. KW for instance has a progressive front spring which is softer than other coilovers. But because of their valving and bump stop design, they actually ride firmer when pushed through turns than its competition. Another good coilover that is very popular for the BMW M3 E92 is the Bilstein PSS10. The Bilstein PSS10 is a very traditional coilover purchase for the M3. It offers 10 way adjustable dampening. This means that the rebound and compression is adjusted as one. They also offer adjustable ride height. For those looking to compete on the race track, we recommend going with a set of Moton suspension. These can very in prices all the way to $10,000. The Moton is put together entirely custom from the spring rates chosen to the sway bar link brackets and mounting solutions for the external resevoirs. For those of you looking for a cheaper solution of a coilover, there are many options out there. Tein, KSport, BC Racing are just a few names that offer introductory coilovers that are great for street, lower the car, and will get the job done. One last coilover to mention is the H&R. H&R is purely known for its suspension. Their coilovers are great whether it is their street coilovers that offer adjustable ride height only or their race ones with full adjustability.
Coilovers for the BMW M3 E92 are just one part of the suspension package to get you dialed in. Coilovers should really be purchased based on the type of driving you will do, the road conditions, the tires you run, the weight of your car, sway bar settings, and more.
