Exedy Clutch Kit Install Video and Overview

So you are looking to replace your clutch on your car and want to know what the best option would be and how indepth the install is should you take it upon yourself.  Well here we have this excellent Exedy Clutch install and breakdown about how the kits in general work for you.  Exedy makes a variety of stage 1 replacement clutch kits to full on twin plate with integrated flywheel racing applications.  Their parent company, Daikin Clutch does OEM parts for almost every JDM car.  If you ever get to replace your clutch, look for the stamp on your used kit.

So when you’re ready to replace your clutch, here are a couple of things to consider.

  • What type of driving do you do?
  • How much HP and TQ do you need to handle?
  • What condition is your flywheel?

The type of driving really depends on what stage or clutch type you need.  There are full face ceramic discs which are the best for street driving.  There are puck style clutchs that have a snappier engagement and really meant for racing where 1st and 2nd gear are not always used in stop and go traffic.  Exedy has multi-plate clutch kits which are best for high horsepower street cars with integrated flywheels.  These kits can come in a regular ceramic disc compound or even available in a carbon disc compound.  Knowing how much HP and TQ you need to handle or will be needing to handle is important.  If you car is a “stage 1” but you plan on doing a turbo upgrade, then you should look at adding the best clutch type to handle the power your going to.  When you change your clutch, you don’t want to reuse the flywheel if it is hot spotted or scorn.  Resurfacing a flywheel is usually not recommended.  Like brakes, its best to put fresh new parts together so their surfaces dont have any material problems.  A lightweight flywheel can make your car rev out much quicker and give you better throttle response and add power with the reduction in weight.

Choosing the right Exedy clutch and flywheel can be confusing, but our sales staff is available to answer any questions at 1.480.966.3040.  Browse our full Exedy Catalog Here.
