This customer’s epic 308 Ferrari one of the best marriages between past and present that we’ve ever seen. It was in 2012 that this customer first told us about his epic custom widebody 308 Ferrari. It’s been a long time in the works, so we were excited when he gave us a sneak peek of a photoshoot he was having done for an upcoming spread he’s featured in.
Designed by Leonardo Fioravanti, the 308 was one of the most celebrated body styling’s Ferrari has ever released. Fioravanti is known for most of Ferrari’s revolutionary releases. So it wasn’t a surprise that this thing became an international phenomena when it was released in 1975. The 308 introduced some of the first brutally aggressive lines while still giving the car that effortless streamline shape. Although this car has made many noticeable appearances over its lifetime, one of it’s most recognizable debuts was on Magnum P.I.
This customer loved the look of the original 308, but wanted to give it more of an updated widebody design. The 308 is known for it’s “futuristic” lines. In the 70’s the 308 may’s well have been a car from the future. But now, as we fast forward, we see what the Ferrari body type has morphed into. He wanted to merge the streamline curves of the current Ferrari body, with the aggressive lines of the original 308. In order to do this he had to get all custom, one-of-one, metal body work done. While in creation, the body was also custom made to fit the spec’d Vintage HRE’s he ordered from us. These wheels really complete the look and unite the current widebody design with classic Ferrari vintage styling.
When HRE created their vintage wheel series, they had cars like this 308 in mind. The HRE Vintage 505’s kept the essence of the original wheels and the way they looked on the car, while upgrading the quality of material, the width of the wheel and the offset (Front wheels 18×8.5 – Rear wheels 18×11.5. ). The 505’s ensure the 308 still gives that nostalgic quality you would want to see out of an iconic classic.
