The Infiniti G35 and G37 were both very popular “tuner” sedans. As emissions restrictions become stricter, manufacturers are forced to use turbocharged engines to meet these tougher standards. This has forced Infiniti to move away from the naturally aspirated V6 engines that enthusiasts loved, towards turbocharged V6 and I4 engines. The all-new Q50 comes with a 2.0L turbo engine that outputs 211 horsepower. Knowing how well most turbocharged engines respond to modifications, we decided to develop a tune for the Infiniti Q50.
As we stated above, the Q50 outputs 211 horsepower and 350 Nm straight from the factory which isn’t bad for a 2.0L turbo, but isn’t really that great. We threw the Q50 on the dyno and started playing around with parameters such a fuel, timing, and boost. Eventually, we found a setup the engine was happy with. We ended up with 250 horsepower and 400 Nm, representing a gain of 39 horsepower and 50 Nm. More importantly, however, we were able to vastly improve the throttle response, making the Q50 much more fun to drive around on the street.
