In the off-road world, Method Race Wheels is one of the biggest names around and for a good reason. Of course, to stay at the top of the market, Method has to evolve and introduce new products constantly. The latest product they have announced is the new MR701.
The MR701 has a pretty simple, no fluff eight spoke design; It’s not flashy or in your face. With one-piece 356 aluminum construction and T6 heat treatment, the 701 is very strong, so you won’t have to worry about it cracking or breaking out in the desert. Aside from the design, there is one thing that makes this new wheel very cool, and that’s the Bead Grip Technology.
If you want to run low tire pressure than a standard style wheel is generally out of the question, as the tire will fall off the bead if the pressure is too low. This can be solved by using beadlock wheels, but those are harder to balance and often aren’t road legal. Bead Grip® technology aims to be the bridge between a conventional street wheel and a beadlock. This is achieved by using grooves and a ’safety hump’ which help keep the tire on the bead, even at low pressure.
Another cool thing about the MR701 is how it’s engineered for extra strength compared to off-road wheels. A high number of wheel failures revolve around the inner lip due to its distance from the mounting pad and spokes making it responsible for sustaining heavy loads without much support. To combat this, Method has taken the reinforced inner lip design from our race wheels and applied it to the 701.
