The Mini Cooper S is known to the world as the most successful British manufactured vehicle next to the Jaguar E-Type. Sporting a 1.6L turbocharged four-cylinder, the R55 chassis resembled its predecessor with upgraded technology. As many enthusiasts know, Mini is known for its superior performance and the R55-R61 chassis is a prime example of engineering excellence.
Pushing out 173bhp from the factory and just under 200 lbs/ft of torque, the presumably small 1.6L engine provides enough pep for the lightweight chassis. Since the chassis is so nimble, it dominates on and off the track. The affordable price tag makes it the perfect dedicated track car or fun car. One issue has plagued the R55-R61 chassis and that is a lack of airflow.

Being that the engine bay is so tiny, like the rest of the car, various components were reduced in size to make room for other parts. One of these components was the intake tube. The factory intake pipe significantly restricts airflow to the turbocharger which in turn robs the engine of power. Luckily, M7 Speed developed a four-ply silicone intake tube with multiple color options to combat this issue.
While maximizing the space within the engine bay, the M7 Speed intake tube fits directly in the factory location. Improving the efficiency of the turbocharger and engine is easily achieved thanks to the increased diameter tubing. The four-ply thick silicone provides superior strength without the worry of collapsing the tube which is common on thin/ cheap materials.
Since the Mini Cooper computers are proprietary, two electronic replicators are provided to avoid a check engine light (CEL) from displaying on the dash. The CEL is only triggered since the computers don’t know how to read a non-OEM intake tube. This requires certain parameters to be changed to allow the use of an aftermarket intake which are provided in the kit.
