Mission 9 – Camber Toe Camber Toe Camber…

No matter how many times you read it, people write it, and the purists swear to the Porsche God that the car is perfect, there is always room for improvement. Now that might sound repetitive but in the Porsche world, what I do is like the anti crist. As a weekend racer, and firm believer in handling is key, I had already completed the 2 main upgrades, coilovers and sway bars. The next step was to stiffen the rear end up more and add some adjustability for those fine tune racing alignments. With so little factory adjustment we found one key element that could be changed. This is when we turned to a top secret source who had a new product on the line for us to test.
We received these control arms for our 996 in an unmarked box delivered in a unmarked white van. The gentleman simply nodded at me, handed me the package, and left. What we found was an extremely lightweight aluminum control arm with Heim style joints that were cadium plated steel able to hold up to 20000lbs of pressure. Each control arm was notched for easy adjustability. All 4 pieces were the same length so we installed them with no problems. Removing the factory non adjustable bricks for these lightweight adjustable racing components took about 20 minutes per piece.

Once they were installed they were set to the appropriate lenght to match the stock setup. We then took the car to a local alignment specialists where they setup the rear camber and toe to our specs for competition. We then took the 996 out to a race event and tested the crap out of these. Buttonwillow Raceway in California can definitely put the car through the tests. Guess what… they passed the race and the daily driving test. No clunks, no noise, very clean, stiffer rear end, more adjustability, and everything we were told they would do happened.

Oh yeah rumor has it they are about $500 or less for the set of 4!!! Interested in these? Send me an email!
