It’s no surprise that Acura’s turbo TLX is extremely susceptible to heat-soak, especially with the factory intercooler. Excessive heat-soak increases the risk of detonation and causes major power loss due to high charge air and cylinder temperatures. These problems become even more prevalent with spirited driving and/or increased power outputs. To alleviate the potential for these issues, an upgraded intercooler is highly recommended. The addition of a larger or upgraded intercooler is also one of the best ways to safely increase horsepower in a turbocharged vehicle.
The new PRL Motorsports intercooler upgrade for the 2021+ Acura TLX Type-S reduces charge air temperatures while increasing potential airflow with its dense 28 x 5 x 6.375″ 650-plus horsepower rated bar-and-plate core. The PRL intercooler core increases surface area by 54 percent and internal flow by 91 percent to allow optimal cooling and airflow. Billet machined aluminum end tanks maximize efficiency while looking just as smooth. This intercooler uses all of the Acura TLX factory mounting spots with the billet machined end tanks as well as the stock air ducts/shrouds. And like most of the PRL product lineup, there is absolutely no cutting, fitting or trimming required to install this upgrade. Choose from raw aluminum (for a more polished look) or a black finish (for a bolder look).
