The 2022 BRZ is likely to be a common sighting at your favorite road course with its fun-to-drive manual transmission and increased torque along with the fact that it is a joy to drive from the factory and fairly simple to mod for those looking to take it to the next level. The comprehensive line of AP Racing by Essex Brake Kits has matured alongside the Subaru BRZ and now consists of the latest and greatest in Radi-CAL caliper technology. Brake kits for the previous BRZ and 86 platforms were among the brand’s best-sellers, and the company is now excited to announce its even larger selection of options for the new-and-improved model.
In addition to the highly popular Spring and Endurance brake kits with the four-piston CP8350 caliper, Essex now offers six-piston Radi-CAL setups, something never offered for the first-gen cars. So, whether you are hitting the track straight from the showroom floor, or are planning to build a project with double its power, Essex brake solutions are sure to get you there. It’s important to note, however, that Essex has not physically tested a 2022 Toyota GR86 yet, so it can only confirm fitment for those on the BRZ at this moment.

During the testing phase, Essex was pleased to find additional space behind the OEM 18-inch wheels compared to the 17-inch wheels from the first-gen model. At this point in time, Essex can confirm that its CP8350/325mm and 9660/355mm Radi-CAL kits clear the OEM front 18-inch wheels without a spacer, making it easier to keep your factory wheels. The new 340mm Radi-CAL kit for the rear axle also clears without a spacer, providing a complete upgrade solution for the OEM wheel setup. The 9668 kits with 355mm and 372mm discs will, however, require a spacer to clear properly. Essex feels confident its new CP8350/299mm system will clear as well, but the company won’t know for certain until it confirms prototype parts that are in production now.
The advantages of an Essex brake upgrade for the 2022 Subaru BRZ don’t just end with the cutting-edge, lightweight AP Radi-CAL calipers. AP’s championship-winning 2-piece J Hook Discs boast far greater thermal capacity than the OEM units, with more cooling vanes and a directional curved design for better airflow and disc face stability. Factory one-piece discs are not optimized for extensive track use and can become distorted when used at high temperatures causing judder and eventually leading to cracks. The fully-floating two-piece J Hook design allows for free expansion, lessening the tendency for it to crack and, thus, significantly extending its lifespan. Essex discs also weigh less than the factory units, despite being much larger!
