Since its introduction back in 1975, the Porsche 911 Turbo has always been one of the German marque’s most thrilling rides. The latest 992 version continues that legacy, but unleashing such a potent beast on the track with stock brakes can turn into a troublesome and quite costly situation. The new AP Racing by Essex Radi-CAL Brake Kits can fix the myriad of potential problems the stock brakes can present, while maintaining the primary benefit of the PCCB system – unsprung weight savings. The Radi-CAL Competition Brake Kit for the Porsche 992 Turbo/S models offers an icon brake system that retains most of the unsprung weight advantage of PCCBs, but without all of the negatives of carbon-ceramic discs. This is accomplished by applying the latest cutting-edge brake technology to both the calipers and the discs.

Radi-CAL is a blanket term used to describe AP Racing’s patented asymmetrical brake caliper design. Radi-Cal technology is grounded in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and allows for “organic, alien-looking designs” that represent a profound departure from conventional caliper designs of yesteryear. Radi-CALs are widely considered the pinnacle of current brake caliper technology and highly sought after, especially by owners of high-performance vehicles. Since their inception in 2007, these revolutionary calipers have amassed countless race victories at all levels of professional motorsports, while redefining brake performance expectations across the board.

Additionally, Porsche owners looking to track their car will want to run the smallest, lightest wheel and tire combo available. These AP Radi-CAL kits boast compact dimensions that allow for 19-inch wheel fitments, whereas 20s are a minimum requirement to clear the OEM PCCB system. So not only does the AP Racing system preserve most of the unsprung weight savings associated with PCCB, but it also gives you the option to run a lighter-weight wheel and tire package, while also gaining more tire choices in the process. Plus, with the AP J Hook Discs, you won’t have to worry about chipping your discs, which is a legitimate concern with those running carbon-ceramic discs.

Key Benefits of the Radi-CAL Design:

  • Massive Stiffness Increase: A 30+ % increase in both static and dynamic stiffness vs. conventional calipers allows for far less deflection under load, which means superior pedal feel & modulation, more even pad wear, and longer caliper service life.
  • Considerable Mass Reduction: Removing all extraneous caliper mass lowers the caliper weight, despite the huge stiffness increases.
  • Optimized Airflow: Air moves around and through the caliper more efficiently, providing superior heat evacuation and cooling.
  • Efficient Packaging: The asymmetric caliper profile and internal fluid porting allow the caliper to fit into tighter spaces.

Advantages of an AP Racing Brake System:

  • Iron discs are much more resilient under heavy track use, and replacement costs are a tenth of PCCB ($600 vs. $6,000 per disc)
  • Our front AP Radi-CAL iron brake system adds less than one pound per side of unsprung weight vs. the OEM PCCB setup, and only four pounds per side in the rear.
  • Our Radi-CAL system fits inside 19″ wheels, which the OEM PCCB discs cannot do, allowing for additional unsprung weight reduction plus improved tire options
  • For those with factory iron brakes who swap between road and race pads, our AP Racing Radi-CALs feature a removable bridge, making pad swaps far faster and easier than the stock calipers
  • Commonly available AP Racing pad shapes provide a wide selection of brake pad choices to tailor system feel and performance
  • Removing the stock calipers and PCCB discs allows them to be preserved undamaged, retaining the vehicle’s future resale value
  • Our systems typically trade hands on the used market at 65% or more of their original MSRP, lowering the long-term cost of ownership. Use them for a few years and recoup a large portion of your initial investment.
  • Parking brake remains fully functional with the AP Racing system
