The engineers at Clutch Masters worked so hard to develop a new heavy-duty sprung hub carrier assembly that is the cornerstone of the DCT flywheels. These BMW flywheels by Clutch Masters cut back significantly on the rotating mass as reducing the rotating mass of the flywheel allows for increased throttle response as well as freeing up lost power. Compared to the BMW factory flywheel that utilizes a dual flywheel that helps dampen drivetrain shock and protect the expensive clutch baskets, Clutch Masters engineers ditched the dual-mass flywheel as it is a must for applications making significant power as they can be prone to failure and potentially cause significant damage.
The flywheel by Clutch Masters shifts gears in 50 milliseconds and the heavy-duty sprung hub carrier was designed specifically for the BMW DCT platform to ensure that a considerable amount of comfort is maintained while also increasing performance. Clutch Masters sprung hub allows engine harmonics and shock passing through the drivetrain to be dampened, which results in a smoother driving experience compared to a traditional solid rigid hub. With this flywheel, Clutch Masters took a different approach by dampening the flywheel itself by using their heavy-duty springs found in their high-performance clutch discs that have been proven to take a beating while also maintaining reliability.
Clutch Masters has developed 3 different DCT flywheels for the straight 6 and V8 engines that the DCT came equipped with.
- DCT-055-AL is for the one year that the DCT came in the E90 335i that utilized an 8-bolt crankshaft. This flywheel can also be used for any one who is swapping a DCT on to their earlier model year 6 cylinder BMW that uses that same 8-bolt crank. This flywheel weighs 13lbs, better than the factory one which is 28lb

- DCT-795-AL is basically the same flywheel as the DCT-055-AL but has been made for all 6 cylinder BMW engines that use a 6-bolt crankshaft. These include the 135i, E92 335i, F80 M2, F80 M3, F82 M4, and Z4. This flywheel weighs 13lbs (factory weight is 28lbs for non M cars, and 18lbs for M cars.

- DCT-148-SF is a lightweight steel flywheel designed for the V8 engines that came in the E90/E92 M3 and the F10 M5. This flywheel includes an integrated trigger on the ring gear as well. This flywheel weighs 18 lbs (depending on year of vehicle factory weight is either 27lbs or 20lbs).
