It’s no secret that the BMW N55 was a beast of an engine. It made good power throughout the rev range and responded well to bolt on modifications, plus it could make a decent amount of power before needing any major internal upgrades. The N55 is on its way out with the B58 replacing it. Luckily, the new B58 is an excellent engine and thanks to its turbocharged nature, it responds to modifications just as well as the N55. If more air can be fed to the turbocharger, more air can be compressed, and more fuel can be added, resulting in more power. This is the idea behind aftermarket intake systems, and after much anticipation, Dinan has released their new B58 cold air intake.
This new intake from Dinan is designed to be a direct OEM replacement. By using a filter with a larger surface area, more air can flow freely through the filter without sacrificing filtration quality. With a carbon fiber box to protect the filter from hot engine bay air, the system pulls air from outside the vehicle just like the stock intake. This helps keep intake air temperatures down. The result from the well-designed filter housing and a larger filter is +15hp and +13 ft-lbs with no additional modifications. These gains will be even larger with further modifications and a quality tune, such as our VR Tuned ECU flash.
Aside from the gain in horsepower and torque, you can expect an improvement in throttle response which will make your BMW feel much better off the line or while pulling out of corners.
