New Product Alert: Injen Intercooler for EcoBoost F-150

Although the EcoBoost powered F-150 makes more horsepower and torque than the Coyote powered versions, it’s not without its flaws. When air becomes compressed it heats up. If the air going into your engine gets hot enough it can cause detonation. This occurs when the air becomes hot enough to ignite the fuel without the need for a spark. This is very bad for your engine and is not something you want happening. Furthermore, hot air is less dense than cold air, ultimately creating less horsepower.

The purpose of an intercooler is to cool down the air that’s being compressed by the turbocharger which is hot by itself. From the factory, most turbocharged cars have sufficiently efficient intercoolers. With an aftermarket tune or any aftermarket parts, your intercooler than quickly reach its limits. This is where an aftermarket intercooler comes into play. Injen, a globally recognized manufacturer of aftermarket parts, has just released their new EcoBoost F150 intercooler to the public and now it’s available through Vivid Racing!

This new intercooler features a much larger designed than the factory unit. To be more specific, this intercooler has a 25% increase in core volume. This larger size allows for more internal space where the compressed air can be cooled. As tested by Injen, this intercooler decreases charge air temperatures by up to 30°F compared to the stock intercooler. The larger size also helps decrease heat soaking. Injen found gains of up to 29 horsepower and 33 ft-lbs, but more importantly, this larger intercooler will keep charge air temperatures more level. This means you can make more power, more consistently.

The cooler charge temperatures allow for more ignition timing and more boost overall, resulting in great performance gains with an ECU tune. This intercooler is designed to fit the 2.7L and 3.5L Ecoboost F150 as well as the 3.5L Ecoboost Raptor. Installation is pretty easy, as this intercooler bolts right into the factory location without any modification. Pre-orders are beginning now, with the product shipping in April 2018.
