The first is designed for the 2.0-liter B48 engine (320 | 420 | 520 | 440 models) and the second for the 3.0-liter B58 engine (M140 | M240 | 340 | 440 models). The BMW 2.0-liter turbocharged B48 engine is well known for being a powerhouse. Commonly seen in Mini Coopers and even the new A90 Supra, the B48 has been around for quite a while. At the same time, the true potential of this incredible platform remains untapped. The B58 engine is an extremely tunable turbo platform that can make some real power with efficiency to boot. It can be found on popular models like the M240i and 340i. With all that said, there is one weak point that prevents drivers from achieving more power: the factory (plastic) turbo inlet pipe. Because the factory charge pipe on these cars is made from plastic, it is prone to cracking and even popping off the flange when under high boost pressures.
