Looking for a Nissan GTR Horsepower Upgrade? Then this is the perfect place to be. Vivid Racing takes great pride in tuning up the performance of the Nissan GTR. The twin turbo V6 is pretty easy to get another 100 horsepower out of it over stock. Many of the first purchase items are basic bolt on products that can be done in your own garage or by any competent workshop. The biggest gain in power on the Nissan GTR is from a ECU flash. The most popular ECU flash is the Cobb AccessPort. The Cobb AP is a plug and play solution via the cars OBDII port that stores stage maps on it. Gains depend on which stage map you are running but are between 10-15% increase over stock. Thats roughly 50 horsepower! These different stage maps are related to the modifications you have the car such as a turboback exhaust, intake, intercooler upgrade, etc. If you go further with modifications, you can use the Cobb AP to datalog and get a custom tune done.
The next biggest horsepower upgrade is the exhaust system. The factory exhaust is restrictive to meet government regulations. The downpipes have restrictive catalytic converters for emissions. Going with a high flow cat or a catless downpipe will add 20 horsepower alone. The remainder of the exhaust including the midpipe and muffler is the next best upgrade when searching for more horsepower on the Nissan GTR. Exhaust systems can very from manufacture coming in all different styles, material types, and diameters. The larger the pipe diameter, the more exhaust flow and horsepower will be created. For example the Agency Power 90mm exhaust has a lot of exhaust flow compared to another system with only 76mm piping. To maximize performance, we recommend going with the downpipes, midpipe, and muffler for a complete exhaust system.
After doing the ECU and the exhaust system, you can look at upgrading your intakes to a more cold air intake design and improving your intercooler setup. You have to be careful with the air intakes as if the MAF pipe diameter is larger or smaller than stock, it will affect the ECU and cause the car to run poorly or throw a CEL if not custom tuned. Most cold air intakes benefit the car by having a cone air filter that takes in a larger volume of air compared to the stock box. Along with the upgrade air intake system, you can also get a larger intercooler and upgraded intercooler pipes to keep the turbocharger running cool and moving more air flow into the turbo. Usually the intercooler pipes and intercooler are sold separate but work modulare with the stock system. So you dont need to buy them at the same time.
The above outlined are the main performance parts you can do to the car to get the most horsepower without changing anything major. However there are some of us that just want more horsepower from our GTR so we are going for further upgrades. The next big upgrade is to change out the GTR’s intake manifold and upgrade the fuel injectors. With this, you can then increase the boost pressure and tune the car to make even more horsepower. One of the most popular intake manifolds is from Boost Logic. This increases air flow from the intakes into the cylinder heads in a less restrictive manner than stock. Injectors will depend on how much power you want to obtain but typically going with Injector Dynamics is the best route. The next logical step is to ugprade the turbochargers. You can go about this 2 different ways depending on how much power you want to reach. If you are going to stay on the stock engine internals, then you can have the factory turbos modified. This is usually done by changing out the wheel to flow more air. The other option is to do a big turbo replacement which requires different headers and then building the engine. Building the engine can be done by changing out the pistons, rods, head gasket, head studs to handle more boost. On average, every 1psi of boost is equal to 10 horsepower. You can also go with the option of doing a stroker motor upgrade where it takes the stock 3.8L and bores out the engine to a larger displacement. This not only handles more boost and horsepower, but gives you a ton more torque.
Horsepower Upgrades on a Nissan GTR can be simple or complex. Vivid Racing’s Performance Specialist have the skillset and knowledge to get you where you need to be.

Is this Cobb tune compatible with a 2020 gtr?
We do not sell Cobb. We have a better solution from Visconti, see here https://www.vividracing.com/nissan-gtr-ecutek-tuning-kit-visconti-p-152406606.html. This can be used for the 2019-2020 as well.
