With some slight tweaks done to the 2018 WRX, companies are now trying to figure out which parts can be cross referenced and used on the new model. Most parts carry over, but some needed some slight refinements in order to fit and function properly. Perrin had previously released a Shifter stop for the 2015-2017 models, but the 2018 model needed some minor adjustments.
This product will limit the movement in the shifter via a physical metal blocking plate. This will reduce the side-to-side play that is found in the factory set up. For most enthusiasts, we consider this issue “Shifter slop”. This issue can lead to missed shifts and drivability issues. Official launch notes for this product can be found in the link below.

“Due to the slop of the internals in the transmission, there is an unacceptable amount of horizontal slop within the 1st- and 2nd- gear shift gates. What should be little to no movement ends up being nearly 1.0 inch of play. This makes for an unnatural placement of shift gates and a lost feeling of which gear you are in. The PERRIN Shifter Stop removes this play, reducing the horizontal movement to 0.12 inches. This makes for a solid connection between the driver and transmission.”
