Phase 15 – The Lightweight Addition

The car we had always dreamed about, the car we worked to get, the car we finally received, has arrived. Project BMW M3 has just completed its first magazine photoshoot for BIMMER after the addition of some cool carbon parts. Carbon fiber front bumper, carbon fiber hood, and carbon fiber CSL trunk are just some of the new toys. Now, before we get into the parts, Project M3 has flown by in a year with some amazing first. We were the first to run the K&N intake and test it for K&N. We had the car in the K&N booth at SEMA. We developed a line of our own parts for the car including front strut tower brace, front and rear sway bars, and sway bar links. We also designed aluminum and titanium paddle shifters for the SMG models to give an enhanced driving performance. So with this being said Project M3 has met the Vivid standards and gone a long way. Its not done…no its not, so stay tuned for more updates as we continue our style.

Back to basics… we added the Vorsteiner carbon fiber hood, trunk, and front bumper to our M3. This front bumper saved about 15lbs of weight. It offered built in carbon flippers and a CSL style brake duct. The complete carbon bumper is made from a mold so it is a perfect fit. We painted the bumper and left a couple of areas carbon to stand out. The hood was a 2 sided carbon fiber. Meaning both the under and top side are carbon fiber. This hood saved about 30lbs from the stock one and fit with all the factory hardware. Because the hood was so light, we did remove the factory hood shocks to prevent in breaking that might occur. In addition, the hood is thicker then then stock for reinforcement so it will not fit with all strut bars. Finally the trunk is very similar to what we had before except this CSL style was in carbon. The carbon fiber was done perfectly and the trunk retained all factory hardware. The fitment was dead on and the style greatly increased. All 3 were beautiful compliments to the carbon fiber side vents and rear diffuser we had on the car.
