We recently did one of our performance enhancing upgrades on this customer’s Scion FRS. This beautiful ultramarine FRS has the automatic gearbox, which can definitely benefit from an ECU flash. With this upgrade, the car will experience a faster throttle response and improved top end. This customer had a Perrin exhaust and headers to enhance the vehicle’s performance as well. The car was quicker to come into power and the results were immediately felt – what a difference!
The Scion FRS, Subaru BRZ, and Toyota GT86 platforms with the FA20 engine in it is just what the tuner car world needed. While adding an intake, exhaust and headers can be beneficial, doing an ECU tune will yield a more drivable daily car. Where others focus on a top horsepower number, we focus on the overall driveability and improvements to the power curve. The FA20 engine lacks some low-end torque and throttle response. In its stock form, the car seems sluggish and does not really come alive until you hit the higher RPMs. With VR Tuned’s Stage 1 calibration, the midrange pulls harder and keeps pulling to the redline. On the 6-speed manual transmission cars, we can even raise the rev limiter for you by 500rpm.
