WP Pro Brakes has a lot of amazing big brake kits and OEM replacement rotor kits available. Many of today’s hottest cars come with factory Brembo engineered kits. So trying to convince someone to spend $5-7K on a front and rear upgrade kit is not as easy as the days of cast metal 2 piston and 1 piston calipers. But there is still a lot of room for braking improvement. Whether the surface area is increased with “Plus 1” rotor kits, better pad compounds, steel braided brake lines, or just better venting on the discs, braking performance can always be accomplished. One of the new projects we are working on with WP Pro is this 2 piece floating rotor upgrade for the CLA45. The CLA45 comes with a nice big Mercedes Brembo calipers and 1 piece cross drilled rotors. But if we can improve braking and rotational weight, then it is a win. 2 piece rotors will usually last 3-4 times longer than 1 piece. With the pads getting even wear on both sides, as well as improved braking from the different ventilation of the discs, the initial investment to buy a set of 2 piece floating rotors costs more but will save you more in the long run. With the floating hardware, you can just replace the disc and keep the billet aluminum hat so you are not replacing the full rotor. On these rotors WP Pro is building for us to sell, the fronts save about 10lbs per corner while the rear saves about 11lbs while still retaining the parking brake function. Rotational weight savings is typically calculated at a factor of 3 times. So we are looking at saving 30lbs per corner! Thats insane! You can’t get that much rotational weight savings even with a set of custom 1 piece forged wheels in 19 inch compared to stock.
Besides just manufacturing, WP Pro Brakes has purchased the competitors (not naming them) discs to do a comparison. The WP Pro will out last the other brand even with a set of Pagid RS19 yellow pads. The WP Pro discs don’t wear at as fast of a rate and the surface area temperature was much less.
