Targa Trophy German Car Festival with a McLaren?

Its only proper to attend a German car festival with the best that the British has to offer!  Our McLaren 570S sporting a full Vorsteiner aero package and 20/21 inch wheels was on hand to drive some of the best roads in Southern California.  Targa Trophy, based out of California, puts on these poker run/scavenger hunt type drives that take you on some epic roads and challenges in a 1 day event.  This Memorial Day weekend, Targa Trophy had their 6th Annual German Car Festival which started out at Porsche of San Diego.  The meet and greet played out like a car show before the drivers meeting.  Tons of wicked cars like the Boden Autohaus half camo Lamborghini Huracan and the Allroad Outfitters widebody Audi S4 were displayed.  As a participant you get to grab a goodie bag at registration and get your car stickered up.  Among the plethora of BMW and Porsche cars was a Rolls Royce, Noble M400, Ferrari F12, and a Ferrari 488 Spider.

At the drivers meeting, it is sternly expressed this is not a race, but a drive.  The basic details about the run are given out.  When it is go time, your route is handed to you at the start line as you exit the dealership 1 by 1.  Each driver and navigator is responsible for starting and stopping their time as well as navigating to each checkpoint.  What makes Targa Trophy different is using Social Media.  Search the #targatrophy and you will find tons of selfies, pictures of apple pie, and casino tokens.  Why?  Because each checkpoint requires an action to take place.  You have to share that action as well as stay on the provided route.  The end result is meeting a bogie time set by the Targa Trophy bosses driven the same way, in the same traffic, and abiding by the same traffic laws.  Along with the time and you sharing the challenges at each stop, earns you the ability to qualify for a trophy.

As the rally ended back in San Diego at the Broadway Pier in downtown, it played host to a car show and festival with food, drinks, and music.  On display were some of the rally vehicles as well as vendor booths and one of the sponsors, Toyo Tires with their rig.  Towards the end, the trophies were given out to those that came in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd for closets to the bogie time and meeting each challenge.  Always a great event to drive fun roads and see amazing cars.
