The Best BMW M2 G87 Exhausts to Buy

Today we are checking out the Top 5 Exhaust Systems for the BMW M2 G87. Each one of these exhaust systems have earned a top seller status on our store at Vivid Racing and therefore deserve to be on this list. Before we dive in to the list, why do you need a catback exhaust system for your M2?

If you think the M2 sounds good stock, wait till you open the twin turbo S58 engine with a full catback exhaust. The factory exhaust system was designed to appease the normal customer, but you are not normal and want to hear the sound of your car as you bang through the gears. Aftermarket exhaust systems usually have larger diameter piping which helps reduce the back pressure on the turbochargers give you more horsepower and faster turbo spool up. Most catback exhausts will see a gain of about 10-15 horsepower over stock. One of the big advantages of an exhaust system is the weight savings. The factory exhaust system with all the pipes weighs just over 100lbs! Upgraded stainless steel exhausts can help save nearly 40 or 50lbs which is huge for the overall vehicle. Titanium exhaust would save you even more. To keep the functionality of being able to switch between loud and quiet mode, all of these exhaust systems maintain the factory Valve design. When the valve is open, it bypasses the muffler to give you a loud race car sound. But when closed, the exhaust tone is muffled to help keep those happy in the neighborhood, parking garage, or that 1 state that hates mods…

So lets dive into our recommended exhausts for the BMW M2 G87.

Up first is the Armytrix Stainless Valvetronic Exhaust System. One of the originators of valved exhausts, this high flow exhaust system features dual 2.75 inch pipes off the downpipes which merge into a resonator box and then go to dual 3 inch piping. Before the muffler it features a valve to push the exhaust either through the large muffler or straight out the outside tip. The exhaust features quad 4.5 inch tips available in a variety of colors including black, chrome, gold, blue, and carbon. How much is the exhaust? Hit the link in the description. Lets have a listen!
Next we have AWE SwitchPath Exhaust. This exhaust is actually a midpipe back system that mates up to the factory center muffler. It features full 304 stainless steel piping and immediately goes into an x-pipe design to get the best tone from the S58 engine. The muffler features a factory exhaust valve integration so you can continue to control the sound of the exhaust between loud and quiet. When the valve is closed, the exhaust bypasses the center muffler going straight out the 4.5 inch rolled tip. Available in a polished or black finish, the quad tips give the rear of the G87 M2 a pronounced look.
Another great exhaust system is from the guys at IPE. Their factory has been producing valvetronic exhausts since at least 2005 before IPE was released as its own brand. As one of the originators for the dual tone exhaust systems, they have an incredible catback available for the M2. Also made of T304 stainless steel, it reduces the weight by almost 20% compared to stock. The exhaust allows you to switch between sound levels like factory and is available in different color exhaust tips measuring just over 101mm each.
The Milltek exhaust system for the G87 M2 is a full catback exhaust that is built in the UK. This exhaust is made from 304L stainless steel unlike the others in T304. It is a full 3 inch system that bolts to the factory downpipes and features quad 4.5 inch tips. It does remove the secondary cats but will not cause a CEL and does not require cutting anything to install. The exhaust is available with black, polished, or titanium exhaust tips.
Last up is the Active Autowerkes exhaust system. The exhaust is available as an axle back or you can make it a full catback with their signature equal lenght mid-pipe that really changes the tone of the S58 like no other. This design has been copied by chinese manufactures, so as they say, imitation is the best form of flattery. This entire exhaust is designed to work with the factory valves and features T304 stainless steel construction that is made in the USA.
So those are the best exhaust systems available for the BMW M2 G87. Which exhaust is your favorite? Leave us a comment and tell us which you would buy. If you are ready to score a new exhaust system for your car even if it is not a BMW M2, head on over to VividRacing.com and check out the 1000s of exhaust upgrades we have.
