Thinking About a New Differential? Think Quaife!

If you are thinking about upgrading your differential or getting a new one, then here is a good comparison between Quaife Products and other clutch type differentials.  Quaife is a gear type differential that works very smooth.  It is perfect for street cars to deliver more power to the ground and effective for track cars as well.  The reason it is very smooth in it’s function is because of the gears which do not stop motion.  There is no on or off again feel.  Because the gear type design that Quaife has, the LSD never locks up.  The maintenance of the Quaife gear LSD is simple as it almost never breaks. Clutch type LSD’s require oil maintanence and usually metal type LSD’s require the oil to be changed every 3-5K miles even on street driven after the break-in period. The Carbon LSD versions requires maintenance more often after initial break-in period. Generally it is required to change the oil every 2000 miles due to the carbon disks getting dirty faster. So to keep the best performance, you always need to change the oil at more often intervals.

The Quaife gear system rarily break so you do not need to rebuild them at all. Clutch metal disk LSD needs to be rebuilt every 8-10K miles. Once you lose initial torque on a clutch style LSD, the disk won’t hold well. When they begin to slip, the disks wear out really fast and eventually it will become like a open diff.  One disadvantage of the Quaife is it cannot be set up to different ratio’s like the clutch style LSD. A Quaife has just one setting but for most end users, this is all that is needed. Clutch type LSD’s can be set up as the customers like, depend on how strong, fast, timing etc. Carbon Clutch LSD’s do not need to be set up as precisely as the metal disk LSD’s.  The carbon LSD has wider control with acceleration, which works very linear.   Only a competition race team might find the need to setup a metal LSD to their requirements.  For customers who are looking for performance on the street to track, the Quaife LSD is best choice for improving the cars performance when putting the power to the ground.
