Today we are talking about exhausts! And I’m not talking about putting another fart can on your dad’s 89 miata, Im talking about the intensity of a full race exhaust on a V10 to sound like an absolute animal. It’s time for a product break down and this is our buyers guide for THE TOP 5 Exhausts for the Audi R8 V10!
I don’t know about you but my social media has been blowing up with Audi R8’s because more and more people are buying these cars. With pricing for R8’s at a more affordable level, this is the hot new “micro” super sports car. Getting 500-600 horsepower with a mid engine 5.2L V10 for around $100-150K doesn’t sound like a bad idea. The V10 R8 was available in a couple different variants. So let’s explain…
With the V10 first becoming available around 2009, the Gen 1 R8’s V10 pushed around 520 horsepower. This engine was based from the Lamborghini Gallardo. The Gen 2 Audi R8 came out in 2015 that was totally redesigned and used the same engine as the Lamborghini Huracan. It produced 530 horsepower and the V10 Plus made 600 horsepower! A facelift happened in 2018 giving the base V10 a lift to 560 HP and the new V10 Performance model now made 612 horsepower.
Now what does all this mean? Stock Exhaust Systems SUCK! They are designed for the common person but simply do not produce the type of sound that should come out of a V10. Whether you have a Gen 1 or a Gen 2, and you are wanting to change that, these are our recommendations on the best Audi R8 Exhausts.
Our Number 1 Pick is the Armytrix Titanium Exhaust System. Armytrix is one of the originators of these supercar exhausts. Known for their crazy videos, cars shooting flames, and working with companies like Liberty Walk, Armytrix is a highly desired brand. This exhaust is a full valvetronic exhaust system meaning you can switch the tone of the exhaust between full race loud and mild quiet. It is available with different color tips and is a direct install to the factory catalytic converters to keep your R8 emissions compliant. The full titanium exhaust is priced around $8000 but also weighs nearly nothing compared to the 70lb stock system. Lets listen…
Next up is our Number 2 pick which is Capristo. This exhaust company and their factory are located about an hour away from the famous Nurburgring in Germany. Having personally been to this facility to see how they build their exhausts from the ground up is quite impressive. We even had one of these on our own Audi R8 project car here at Vivid Racing. The all stainless steel exhaust is also a valved system to go between different sound levels. Their unique in-house valve design is the best in the industry where as many other brands valves start to rattle over time. Capristo has a similar price tag of around $8000. But if you want a German exhaust for your German car, this is the one.
Now our Number 3 pick is if you want something thats pretty exquisite and less common but has as much engineering and detail put in the exhaust system as the actual car itself, then you want to check out Kline Innovation. Kline manufactures their exhausts in stainless steel but also in Inconel. Inconel is like titanium. Very lightweight, but much stronger. But for price comparison, the stainless steel exhaust is just below $6000. Also featuring valves that connect to the factory controller, this exhaust will for sure scream when the valves are open. The stainless exhaust weighs in at 42 lbs which saves about 30lbs off the rear end of the car. Kline also said to everyone else, “this isnt just for looks, our exhaust is dyno proven making 21hp”. Lets listen to it.
Coming in at Number 4 is from Quicksilver Exhausts a manufacture of supercar exhausts based in the United Kingdom. We have personally used their systems on our 997.2 GT3RS and Acura NSX over the years. We recently shared their Reveulto Exhaust and what they make is pretty damn impressive. Their R8 V10 system is available in their Titan Sport line which is made of full titanium. The complete rear muffler weighs only 39lbs and works with the factory active valve system. With a price point of just under $5000 for a full titanium exhaust, its a very attractive system for any Gen R8 owner.
Finally we have our Number 5 pick for the best sound Audi R8 V10 Exhaust. Soul Performance has entered the chat! Based out of Pennsylvania, Soul is American Made with a unique muffler design to deliver a sound like no other. I personally had their system on my Porsche 992 GT3 and it didnt break necks. It made street walkers deaf! This full stainless steel system weighs in at 34lbs which saves almost 40lbs off of the stock exhaust. Their muffler design has an internal x-pipe which helps create a unique tone. With 3 inch piping and valves to control the sound like stock, this is the definition of Mild and Wild at your finger tips.
