Much like any enthusiast, we were looking to improve the handling of our performance vehicle. That vehicle just happens to be a 1993 Ford Escort RS Cosworth. The first step in any suspension upgrade is coilovers or lowering springs. But some take it further with doing control arms to improve camber, toe, and/or castor. We applied these same principles to upgrade our Cossie.
Our first step was to remove the Bilstein shocks and springs for a set of fully adjustable coilovers. The GAZ Gold coilovers are one of the few companies that make a kit for the Cossie. Our usual coilover of choice is from KW Suspensions. But for the rarity of the car, these are the best of the best. Then we added a complete new rear subframe called the “6 Degree Beam” which drastically changes the adjustability of the Cossie rear end. The factory rear control arms only have eccentric bolts which give you a limited amount of camber and toe adjustment. This new rear beam by a company in Ireland is an OEM one reimagined. With adjustable heims and reinforced gussets, we now have the ultimate way to dial in the handling. Once completed we hit the roads of Idaho to road rally this car with some of the best supercars and sports cars around!
